How do I explain fishing and the fish dying to my 2 yr old?
He really likes fish. He loves to go to the pet store to look at them in the tanks. I want to take him fishing but I am afraid he will be sad when the fish dies. How do I make this easier for him?

It may be difficult right now, but you could tell him that "some fish are for looking at and some are for eating". Assure him that the ones he sees at the store are the viewing ones that don't get eaten. However, you may be surprised how he reacts, I love fishing but I am also big on fishkeeping. I don't care much for eating the fish (catch them for someone else), but that's because of the texture and taste not the killing part.Uhhhh... Don't do it yet?
you could try catch and release
as for keeping them good luck i have a 2 and 4 year old and they both don't seem yo have a problem with it and i never really tought about it
Anyone out there ever been to Philmont Scout resrvation in Cimarron, new mexico?
Practice catch and release. Catch your fish and let them go back to their home. If you want to eat fish, that is what a grocery store is for. If you think that the fish in the store have to many contaminants, so do the ones you catch at the local lake. Look in the fishing book that came with your license. In the back it will list the fish and what contaminants they have found in them, as well as how often it is safe to eat them. Then you don't have to explain the process of killing a fish that you should throw back for someone else to catch, or you to catch on another day. And usually the store fish tastes better anyway. If i am a resident of Colorado, how do I buy a gun in California?
Get him used to fishing with catch and release. When he is old enough to understand the "circle of life" hide them in the cooler so he doesn't have to watch them flop if he doesn't want to. You might be surprised how interested he is.He is to young to go fishing at age two. I started my kids fishing around age six
