I like the wrist rocket slingshot. I've had one since the '70s and love it. Wal-mat carries these. Best ammo I've found to use is marbles. I get funny looks at the Dollar Store when I check out 20 bags of marbles! For an 8 year old I would suggest adult supervision, with a target and backstop. Hang an old blanket or sheet on a clothesline with a nonbreakable target hanging in the center. A paper target is good so he(I assume) can check his accuracy. Not only does the backstop prevent marbles flying into things you don't want dented or broke, but the marbles will fall right to the ground in front of it so they can be picked up and reused. If your right handed, hold the sling with your left hand and pull with the right. A slingshot really helps develop hand-eye coordination, helps to develop self confidence and as he gets older can be used for small game hunting. They are great for putting those trashcan dumping dogs or other pest on the move. With a slingshot, you can adjust your pull so your not trying to kill such critters, but just letting them know they are not welcome around your house. They are very quiet, inexpensive and just loads of fun. You might just find yourself in competition with your child and arguing over who's turn it is! Be sure and buy replacement slings(the rubber tubes and patch) for it right away as beginners tend to need them pretty soon. Have fun!

you can really get them any were mabye even walmart but i got mine from cambles hard were in robertsdale albama its an high powerd rifle 2.23 i think an 8 year old can handle it it wont kick and it's not very loud

As far as what an eight year old would do with one, well I can bet you will hear far fewer birds and cats in your neighborhood along with quite a few more broken windows than normal.
As long as the child is taught responsibility, then they shouldn't get into too much trouble, but even the most angelic of children make mistakes from time to time.

I grew up shooting a sling shot and still enjoy it now.You can get them at Walmart or most any sporting good store.If the 8 year old is like I was then he will probably try his hand at shooting a few birds and maybe an unwanted rodent.I learned how to shoot very well and didn't break any windows that I know of.Never blinded anyone or maimed anyones pets.I did shoot my share of birds on fences and in trees.I would get a bail of hay to shoot at when practicing so my ammo would stick inside it.I could then go out and dig the ammo out to shoot again.I would buy bags of marbles at flee markets for just about nothing and could shoot for days for pennies.
