a 350-450cc is perfect size for you. As for brands I've done my research and for best atvs arctic cat, canam, kawasaki and suzuki are all the best out there. they all are simular just depends on what sort of ground clearance you want, which AC and canam excell at. I have a arctic cat 500 4x4 but I don't trail ride with it but it goes through the mud great. Also stock tires probably arn't best for mud so you'll probably need to buy different tires. I upgraded to Interco Swamp-Lite tires and dang those puppies work great. about $50-60 per tire which isn't to bad. The engine size won't make to much of a differance as long as your setup is able to handle the mud and trails you throw at it. I started with a crappy 1993 honda 350 4x4 and put a two inch lift in it and upgraded the tires and put a front winch on it and never had to much trouble besides engine troubles.
