Wow, that's a BIG question there cowboy. Let's see, although I am almost exclusively a saltwater fisherman now, I grew up fishing for bass. I would have to say that my favorite fly for bass would be any kind of popping fly, mostly in whites with rubber-band type legs. They used to call them glow bugs. Lay it up close to the bank or bushes and let it sit until the rings disappear. Then with a quick strip, pop it and make it chug and spray water. Not a fast retrieve, just quick strips then let it sit, then strip, then sit. Vary your speed and how hard you chug it until you find what they like.For freshwater my favorite streamer would almost always include some buck tail and most likely white or light colored feathers. I wish we lived close and I'd teach you to tie some.
I am not sure where you live but any of these stores will have a fly fishing section and any one of those guys or girls I assure you love fly fishing and will not only tell you what to use but almost always will take the time to show you some tying tips. I'd try Bass Pro Shops Outdoors World, Gander Mountain or any store with an Orvis section. If you let me know what city you are in I may know some little mom and pop stores for you to visit. My choice for lures is a hair frog.6"leech or popping bug!My leader of choice is a 6' for piers and structure fishing and a 9' one for open areas. Weight line for leaders is 6lb or 8lb test fluorocarbon!
If I had to choose only one fly, it would be a deer hair frog. My favorite streamer would be a black nose dace. As for leader, it would probably be a 9 foot and size 3x.

If I were restricted to only one streamer it would be a chartreuse over white Clouser Minnow with my second choice being a Clouser in gray over white. In still water situations I tend to use variations on Jimmy Nix's Shineabou series and the traditional Featherduster as well.
