I have caught thousands of native trout in the NC mountains and probably 100+ natives over 20 inches ,Most out of small creeks. I grew up on a trout stream. They have special native streams that have strict regulations and no stocking. They have true native appalachain speckled/brook trout in streams in NC but they average underr 10 inches . I caught one of them 14 inches once which is considered a trophy
my first nice native brown trout about 20 yrs ago . It was 24 inches and released right after a pic was taken . My largest trout was a 9 pound brown but I am not 100 percent positive it was a true native , It was colored like one but could have been stocked a couple years before I caught it. Stocked trout get nice color after they have been in a stream while

No, all of the trout I catch were introduced here in Oklahoma and Missouri, although its not official, some of the trout do spawn in the rivers, some people will say they don't I have personally see trout twice as small as they are when put in which is usually 12-13 in. but if you want to catch native rainbow trout try west of the Rockies.Whats the best bait to use for flathead catfish?
Out west, the Rainbow is a native trout, however, most of them that exist today are offspring of planted fish. One native member of the trout family that I have caught is a Whitefish. This fish is native to most western rivers and has managed to exist for many years, while other members of it's trout family tree have gone extinct.Larry

Yes, we use to catch native trout all of the time when I lived in New Hampshire. You can tell a native from a stocked fish by looking at the meat. Natives are a pinkish/ salmon color inside. Stocked fish are white.When do fish spawn in northern Wisconsin?
yes i have caught many native rainbow trout in the kings river in the sierra nevada mountains in california.I'm a salt water guy, one day I pulled over by a trout stream, I always wanted to catch a Trout, I caught a trout, if it weighed 1 ounce it was a lot, I carefully unhooked him, and let him go, I CAUGHT A TROUT ! Way too pretty a fish to eat !

I have caught thousands. almost every steam or river here in Vermont have brook and browns and a few rainbows. The same with New Hampshire.
Here in PA, we have many native trout streams. Valley Creek in the Valley Forge National Park is purely a wild trout stream just outside of Philadelphia. They are exclusively brown trout in the creek. There are 3 or 4 other streams in the Philadelphia area where they have natives.
There are many other streams throughout the state where natives run. I don't have the experience to speak of other areas, but in PA typically, the inside of the natives mouths are black where the stocked fish are white.
The largest natives I caught were in New Zealand. The fish average 5lbs throughout the country.
