Does any one know the name of the bullets that were made after ww 1 for senturys on guard duty at night that the round did not have the power of a normal round so if the sentury shot a frindley by accident it would not kill them or harm them as bad

They used to, and some countries still do, use wooden bullets.Kentucky Lake vs. Lake Barkley?
To correct the above statement; wooden bullets are used in simulation warfare as the wood turns to sawdust a couple of feet out of the barrel. Our military uses a cap on the end of the barrel so that the gas operated system will cycle another blank into the chamber when fired. Others use wooden bullets to build up this pressure. If you just fire a blank in a gas operated rifle, the next round will not load. So, the wooden bullet was not used to injure people, but rather to build pressure for the cycle to continue. I'm not familiar with the round you speak of and would believe it to be a myth. The problem with such a round would number one be the risk of it getting lodged in the barrel and causing the gun to blow up on the following shot. The second problem is the fact that you want a gun to do what it is intended to do when shooting at a combatant. If you accidentally shoot one friendly to every 100 combatants, it would be pretty ignorant to use a round that's not going to stop the attack from the 99 targets. This is much more dangerous than the friendly fire ever will be. There are bullets loaded with less powder to eliminate some sound. These are called Sub-Sonic rounds. The powder is decreased just enough to slow the bullet down to just below the speed of sound. This eliminates the sonic boom heard while the bullet is in flight. Even these rounds run the risk of being loaded too light and lodging in the barrel. They are however definately lethal.More Questions & Answers...
