Beginning skateboarding question?

I just started skateboarding, and found I ride regular. I know you keep your leading foot on the board, and the back foot (so my right foot) is the one that pushes. heres my question: please don't laugh, im teaching myself and dont want to teach myself wrong. when i push, does my foot go on the side of the board closest to me, or the other side, away from me? right now i'm pushing with my foot on the right side of the board in the view of the rider. is this correct?
