I wouldnt recommend it , its probably harmful to the fish , some people use wd 40 or brake fluid on their bait but it will kill the fish .

This is a new one ta' me, however I would think that once the hairspray bait hit the water it (hairspray) would dissipate?Really don't know what your lookin' at, the smell or holdin' bait (roe, etc..) ta'gether. Maybe someone will respond and answer your question, not only for you but myself ;)...
