I need to catch fish?
Okay so I want to go fishing with my dad but we dont really know the best time to go fishing for catfish,we try to guess and we go we use fish for bait and we dont catch nothin,and we see people catchin stuff all the time,what time during the year is best?like "catfish season" and what times during the day should we go?

Catfish feed at all times of the day or night! They are scavengers and will move to find food on the bottom in the middle or even near the surface of any body of water.Try using a fresh carp fillet next time you go out!I cut mine about 4" to 6" long and 1" to 4" wide depending on the fish I am after(large or small cats).I use circle hoolks almost always after a good file shapening though!My other bait is slightly fishy smelling sqiud cut in same sized strips.I rig in a few ways some different than most ! I use a slip sinker on my main line then a swivel with a leader(shorter for fast current if river fishing)tie on a 2 to 6 foot leader as needed I then pin a small oval float about 4" above my hook to float the bait as needed off the bottom(6" to 20")!
Or I fish a slip cork rig and suspend my baits just off the bottom.I only use enough weight to hold the bait in place!And I match hook size to fish I am fishing for 1/0 to 12/0 circle hook!Remember when using a circle hook do not set the hook just start to reel the line in,this may take awhile for you to get used to at first.
My fishing line I use for open water is from 12lb test to 20lb test(lakes or ponds or if heavy cover I use my braids).In rivers I use mostly braids any more!
Bait is your choice they all work from time to time so you need to fish where cats are.These fish move so u may find them here today but the next day they are gone or just are not bitting be patient.If you are having no luck but other ppl are move your baits some to find productive waters.In the spring fish outside of major bluegill or panfish beds where cats will gather for heavy feeds.Remember the riffle,hole and run of the rivers you fish in!The riffle and the hole can be your best fishing the run will be your slacker water after the hole and may hold some fish.I start fishing the head of a hole for active feeding fish then move down into the hole to get my big cats.Good luck!

Early morning .. best time. Catfish are mostly scavengers that feed and swim on the bottom. They sell special catfish bait .. stinky cheese stuff or some is bloodbait. Worms work too. Hope fully you are using a sinker with one hook with a leader at the bottom and .. another hook maybe 2 ft above that on the line. Make sureyou bring gloves to unhook it cuz those spikes on the sides of a catfish mouth can hurt .Deer gun season in ohio---when does it start and end?
you can catch catfish anytime of the day or night its all baout the bait. i like to use worms or blood dough or chicken livers or even shrimp.just about anything that is stinky they will hit on. but i find it best to fish during the hottest part of the day in the deepest part of the lake or river and in the shallows at night.So when do you think the price of ammo will go down?
Try cut up fish ,like bluegill or their favorite is shad, also shrimp or chicken livers on a treblehook work good too. Keep your bait fresh and cold.This is a great time of year to go , I like late evenng or night time

as far as bait is concerned i like to use large bluegill or shad.i say large i mean atleast 6".
a good heavy action rod,i use a deep sea rod,i also use a penn 209 spooled with 50lb test,large 6/0-9/0 hooks,weight will vary due to water current.
blues feed mainly at night or early morning,flatheads will feed just about anytime.

the best time to go catfishing is at night but you gotta cast into the dark areas and i would try to use raw chicken liverAll cats are night feeders, so from dusk untill dawn will be best time to go.
Channel cats are scavengers, and will take baits off the bottm pretty easily. Nightcrawlers work well, but I've had best success with fresh chicken livers or dead minnows.
All other cats are predatory and will take live bait, too. I like medium size bluegills or sunfish, crayfish, or minnows for bait.
For channel cats, put a gob of liver, a whole nightcrawler, or a folded up dead minnow on a small treble hook tied to about two feet of line, snapped to a snapswivel with a sliding sinker above it.
For others, rig your line the same as above, but with a medium size live bait, circle , or octopus hook. Tie a very small live bait hook to the lowest part of the medium hook with about a 1 inch piece of line between them. Hook the minnow or bluegill with the small hook. Hook him just behind the dorsal (big fin on top) fin, if you're fishing under a bobber, or just behind his butt hole if you're fishing on the bottom. Be careful not to pierce his spine so he can swim normally.
Or, you can try a big leech on a floating jighead, on about 2 feet of line, snapped to a snap swivel with asliding sinker above it. It should hang, suspended, about a foot above the bottom with the leech wiggling away. This one is great for weedy bottoms with a little current.
