What is the difference between American football and Rugby?

Answers:

Who was the scrum half for Ireland versus Argentina in October 1990?

It's similar to American football. That's because American football developed from Rugby.

The main and most obvious differences are:

- You can only throw the ball backwards

- You don't wear padding or helmets

- It isn't broken up into plays or downs, play continues after a tackle non-stop

- The endzone is called the In-goal area.

- 5 points for a try (like a touchdown), 2 points for a conversion (like an extra point kick), 3 points for a drop goal (like a field goal)

That's rugby UNION. Rugbly LEAGUE is different in it's points system (4 for a try, 2 for a conversion, 1 for a field goal), and it has a "set" of 6 tackles that are like gridion 'downs'.

Is Super League fixed?

American football: you can pass forward. In rugby, you can only pass backwards. They also use different balls. play is not stopped in rugby unless you're bleeding, unable to move, or dead. no blocking is allowed in rugby. no helmets or large pads are used in rugby. can't have a toe spike in rugby like you do in football.

What channel do I have to subscribe to to watch Rugby?

Rugby is exciting!

Why are forwards so ugly? Were there faces mauled? Get it?

I played american football for 7 years, and I can honestly tell you, its more dangerous. I got 3 concussions, a dislocated shoulder, sprained knee and some other crap playing football, and the worst rugby injury ive had is a sprained ankle.

Either way, rugby is a continous contact game. There are no downs in the union so play is constantly moving untill there is some sort of rules infraction or the ball goes into touch(out of bounds).

Scoring is also different. A try, which is simillar to a touchdown is worth 5 points. From where the ball is scored, it has to be kicked from whatever distance back the kicker desires. The kicker must already be on the field, as there are no designated kickers in rugby. The conversion kick is worth 2pts and a penalty kick is worth 3pts.

To the guy who said that American Football is more dangerous than rugby, I suggest he watch a game of Rugby League from England. If he thinks he would only get a sprained ankle from playing Rugby League in the Super League then I recommend he see a Psychiatrist.

What problems has Brad Fittler had in becoming famous?

Rugby league and union are completely different games of football to American football. Coming from Australia where league and union are among our most popular sports it is very hard to understand the NFL. The fundamentals in league and union are the similar scrums tackles hit ups etc. As pointed out before scoring is different between the codes. In my opinion there are two major differences 1 the forwards play such a vital role in union as with any game but it is crucial for their code, 2 the referee or umpire can have different interpretations of the rules and therefore can have a very strong influence on the outcome (much like soccer) People cannot say either sport league, union or NFL is the most dangerous, league and union don't pad up as much as NFL but some NFL players need the padding because they play on AstroTurf. I do believe that both league union and afl (Australian football ) Is a more free flowing game that require a very high level of fitness maybe high then NFL
