Well, I'm not a scrummy myself, but you need to be very quick witted if you're going to be any good. You are the player that separates the forwards from the backs, and the most pivotal. In open play, always keep your eyes open for gaps in the line, and you'll need to quickly realise who on your team is in the best position to take a pass.You'll always have to get to rucks and mauls quickly, and it the ball isn't coming out stick your boot in to help it. Always tell your forwards what you want them to do to help you out. If the ball comes out on the other side you'll need to be a bloody good tackler in case they try to come round the ruck or maul or scrum, in which case it's your job to stop them.
If the ball is coming out your side, until you touch it the other team can't come round without being offside, so if you feel you need to don't hesitate to wait for your line to get in position or figure out who is in the best position to receive your pass. But quick ball is always better than slow.
Don't always give it out to the backs, giving it the forwards so they can drive on a couple of yards can be very helpful and can gain a lot of ground quickly if you do it a few times.
Remember, you are the teams pivotal player and have to be almost everywhere at once.
