How much does the cold and wind effect your running?

Question:Soo i had a track meet Thurs. and was VERY dissapointed with my mile time.. (5:47) My best is around a 5:43.. One of my teamates beat his pb by like 15 seconds then it started to get real cold and windy.. I was hoping for a 5:20 but that didnt happen.. Your paticular running performance isn't really an issue here, but perhaps you weren't prepared for wind... I think that in most weather conditions here in seattle area, you don't need cold weather gear per se, just wind protection.

In cold wind, you need to protect your extremeties.. gloves, caps that cover your ears etc..

In a race situation, you'll be producing so much heat that you will be a heat source, not a heat sink.. subject to those extremeties...

In five minutes your body isn't going to freeze, so be sure to have energy and water.. you should be able to push thru any wind and most course with strong winds will also loop around and give your an extra push down the back side of the course.

To improve your times, there are many books that go into this subject, training is a big one, basic miles, speedwork, hill work, and talk to your coach,

What is a tempo run?

yeah the cold makes it harder to breath

Shin Splints?

Don't beat yourself up your times are excellent, your to hard on yourself. Cold and wind have a big part on how every one performs. I have a hard time running in the cold and the wind, it's very hard unless you running with the wind and not against it. You might run with a weight jacket to improve your speed... Good luck and Happy Easter...

Which training shoes are best for 50-meter indoor track sprinting?

cold does not really effect your times that much if u do a good amount of stretching and warming up, but wind can definitely effect ur time. im from michigan so i have runs in the cold all the time. i dont know where u live, but on thursday in michigan there were about 40 mph winds. I had a meet that was supposed to be on thursday, but it was put to tuesday instead. to compare, i ran 5 38 on march 12 at the beginning of the season(around ur 5 40s) and 5 21 on tuesday, so the wind did effect u a noticable amount.

My coach told me that i do not have a SPRINTERS ENDURANCE?

OHmyGOD does the wind and cold ever make a difference in times. You take longer to warm up when it's cold; your muscles get stiff easier and you're not as loose. Naturally that will slow you down. The wind too- especially in track becomes a horrible enemy. It makes running impossible sometimes. Don't beat yourself up about it!

As long as you're following your coaches program your times will improve. Times don't come down overnight. Stay positive, keep training hard and remember to eat healthy and drink lots of water. Stay upbeat- things will improve!

How should i prepare for my meet on monday for the 3200m?

i dont know about you but the cold makes it harder for me to breth and because i dont weigh much the wind sometimes pushes me to the outside lanes and restricts me espeially if i finish against the wind

My adductor/groin muscle is sore from running & I train for my 1st marathon soon. Should I rest til then?

The cold makes your muscles stiff and makes it harder to breath. You just need to warm up earlier and for a longer period of time to get yourself loose. As for the wind, just go talk to a sprinter and ask him/her how much difference running into and with the wind makes. Depending on how strong the wind is, it'll drain your stamina at double the normal rate or higher when running into it.

I wear a woman's size 7.5, if I buy an equivalent size in a children's model, will it not have the same support

yes cold and wind can effect ouyr running a lot. especially if you don;t keep warmed up and stretched properly. if you don't you will become really tight and you are more likely able too pull something and your times will be slower.

10 points for the correct and best answer.?

Cold and wind make you fun faster. But not in terms of a track meet, heres how. For most of the track meet you aren;t doing anything, so the cold and wind strips away your energy and just makes you tired and miserable. Go hide in the bathroom, it's what the hurdlers do. nice and warm.

But when it's just cold and windy when you're training then it's a mental thing as you do better.

improving times is really just having a good training program. You should already be on one seeing as how you're on track.

btw 5:43 sounds amazing =D

Do you know the world record time in 100mt, who & when?

Wind does affect your time a lot, and for some people cold weather does too. I actually have gotten my best times in the coldest weather. I just run better in the cold, but for some people they run better when it is hot. It just depends on the person who is running.
