I am doing the Dublin marathon in October!?

Just wondered what people thought was the best training to do (i know obviously running)! And what the best way to get yourself motivated to go out training after work! Also the best foods for me to be eating!

Why does this happen when i run?GRRRRRRRR?

The best way to train for a marathon and stay motivated is to join a running group. Some people are self-motivated, but the rest of us mortals need some support to keep us going. Being part of a structured program that slowly develops your running is a great way to start out. People in running groups are generally very nice people (like pretty much all runners) who share your desire to reach the goal of running a marathon. In addition, the program will give you great tips on how to improve and develop your running.

What's great about the Dublin Marathon is that every person that enters can be part of a free training program called adiRuns (see Link #1). This is a great opportunity that you should take advantage of. I am from the U.S., and these programs costs me about $100 (75 EUR), but they're still worth every penny (or shilling).

If you need additional motivation, try telling your family and friends about it. Encourage them to come and see your big moment. That will help you stick to your goal.

As for eating, you will want to eat food that is high in carbs and protein and low in fat. Lots of pasta, breads, salads, fruits, steaks, etc. More information is available at the Dublin Marathon website (see Link #2). Of course, you can cheat once in a while and drink a pint of Guinness (my personal favorite; high in carbs).

Anyway, congratulations on setting out for your goal, and good luck in October.

I fell on my tailbone and I have track meet coming up?

there are lots of marathon training programs out there, just a quick google search will find dozens of them.
what works for me is to do 3 short runs during the week of 30-45 minutes, then a long run on Saturday that increases in distance as the marathon gets closer.

motivation is different for everyone. some people enjoy running with groups, so look for a running group that is training for that marathon. Also, tell your family and friends what you plan on doing, and the motivtaion to not let them down will get you out to train.

eating - just eat a balanced diet. stay away from fast food and junk, and drink lots of water. you may find your body needs more carbs as you train harder, thats normal.
