Running Slump?

How do I get out of a running slump? I'm a junior in high school and have been running 14 seconds slower in the half mile, 40 seconds slower in the mile, and a minute slower in the two mile compared to my sophomore year times. I don't feel tired at the end of a race but I can't push myself during the race.

Over training?

Maybe you just need a break. It might be a good time to work on other parts of your life - academics, social life, planning for the future, volunteering, spending time with family, etc. You could skip the rest of the season and let your body recover. When you come back, you'll be even stronger. While you're not running, do cross-training (biking, elliptical machines, etc) so you don't get all out of shape. It'll be refreshing and give you a better perspective on running and its exciting quirks.
Still, it would probably be a good idea to make sure you're not experiencing some sort of physical problem. Are you eating well (balance of proteins, carbs, veggies, fruit, fats)? A lot of people your age try not to eat fats, but you need them. What about sleeping? That's when your body recovers, and you need lots of sleep as a distance runner.
Are you depressed or worried about something? It could be affecting you in ways that you're not aware of.
Also, talk to your family and friends. Don't be embarrassed that your times are slower; if they love/care about you, they'll want to help you and won't judge you.
Good luck!

Who has current world record in mile! and what is the time?

go get full physical from the doc. You may have a medical promblem in heart, pulmonary or something. Its a ;ong shot but you never know.
Or
Maybe you are not in shape like last year. Sometimes other things come up and training gets cut short or right out.
Good luck to ya

I want to run faster but how?

how do you feel during the race? i've experienced this too, it turned out that i had athletic-induced asthma. also go to a doctor and have your legs and feet checked. if there is something wrong with your legs or the shoes you where, this "slump" could happen. most importantly: do you still love it? motivation is important, too.

Mile time!!!!!?

I had a similar slump when I was in HS XC from Sophmore to Junior years. It could be growth related, or even just slight burnout. Work at it & you'll get back into it. My Junior "slump" made me train hard over the summer and I had by best times in Senior year by a long shot. Sometimes we need a slump to motivate us to new heights. Best of luck!

Why did the chicken cross the road?

the only thing you can do is practace harder. plus at your age it could be a physical change issue or even a heart problem. When your running time yourself with your own personal watch and concentrate on 2 things your time and beating people- make your self get competitive before your race and youll end up worrying about beating people and you will actually get better times.
good luck- dont give up until you get those times

Walking shoes vs. running shoes?

How is your training compared to last year? Are you getting enough sleep, recovery between workouts, and adequate nutrition?

If you don't feel tired after the race, you may not be pushing yourself hard enough. In practice, you should try running 200 - 400 meter repeats faster than your half mile and mile race pace. Also, at the end of your longer runs, try pushing really hard the last half mile. I think this will help teach you how you should feel. Embrace the pain!
