Runner's Diet or Short Term Planning.?

To set your blocks place your front foot pad about 2 of your foot lengths from the line and the rear foot pad about another foot length. This about where you will be comfortable, but you should adjust for your feel. The rear foot should be your best or strongest foot and leg. With your feet on the pads and the toes slightly touching the ground, rest on your rear knee on the ground. Place your thumbs under your shoulders, slightly wider. Rest your hands on your thumbs and index, middle fingers. When you come to the set position your shoulders should be directly over your hands, the hands are near but not touching the line. Keep your back straight, your rear end higher than your shoulders.Head is relaxed and hanging down. The front knee angle is about 90 degress, the rear knee between 150-170 degrees. When you come to the set position take a deep breath, and hold it until you start. When you start exhale. Do not think about the gun, but think about what you are going to do. Push off with both feet, driving your lead arm forward and above your head, drive the rear arm back. The rear foot will come off the pads first because the angle is greater and the leg was straighter. Take a big first step. Do not look up. It should take about 8-10 strides to transition into an upright position. You can practice starts by coming out of the blocks and sprinting about 40 meters.

What are the best type of shoes to get if your running track or cross country?

The other person is right about everything he's telling you. The only other things that you need to know is that your first step will be big with a strong push. Your fist step should strike the ground in a stabbing motion. Yous should rise your shoulders while pushing as hard as you can up the track for as long as you can. Your heel recovery needs to remain low otherwise you won't be able to push. Your block pads should sit at a 55 to 60 degree angle. Be patient in your push. You being the first one out the blocks is not always the best thing cuz the race ain't won in 30 meteres.
