I can run 2 miles in 14 min. I need to get this time down to 13 min. in 1 month. HELP!?


This is for my lacrosse team. How hard would it be and what would be a good workout routine. I am a 14 year old male and I also lift weights if that has to do with anything. THANKS!

Drinking water or taking any fluids before running is good ?

if you just started running, taking a minute off your two mile time will be relatively easy. Steady runs of 3 or 4 miles a day will help a lot. Also maybe running a few workouts will help.
I reccomend an uptempo 3 mile run once or twice and maybe a 400 workout on a track. The workout that other guy reccomended seems a little ambitious for a beginner so you can go slower than that i think. Make sure you're well rested before the actual test run.

As for the weight lifting, no it shouldn't matter. I run for my school 3 seasons a year and combine that with a weight training regimin. If anything, it helps to have a strong core.

What is the best way to increase my acceleration (sprinting)?

Monday, wed, friday: Run 4 miles (builds endurance)

Tues Thursday: Run 400's(one lap around the track) Aim for 78sec each lap take 60sec break in between each one. Do 12-16 if you are able to do 16 at 78 sec lower to 76 keep lowering until difficult. Do not go below 68sec/lap. This will be for speed

Saturday Sunday: One day run 6miles take the other off.

One thing you'll hear a lot as an athlete: You can't teach speed.

Just keep running, work on your stamina, and you're bound to get better and be able to run longer without getting tired.

What specific foods to eat the night before a track meet?

well i dont really know but i do know that i run faster then you because i can run 2 miles in about 12.5 minutes.
