Runner's knee in my right knee?

I've developed runner's knee in one knee only. Is that normal? I understand that i need to stop running for a while and allow my knee to heal but what can I do to maintain my cardiovascular health and my exercise routine. Nothing gives me the "high" that I get from running and nothing makes me feel like i'm getting a good workout. Also i've purchased the asics kayanos which are really great. It's softened the knee pain but hasn't diminished it. Any suggestions? Thx. Oh, and it's probably not a good idea to jump rope, right?

How do you run the 400m?

Aaahh the runner's knee, every runner will get it at least once. Back off on running for a little while and do some swimming and biking to stay in shape. Stay off the skipping rope. Asic Kayanos are wonderful shoes, I wear the GT 2120s. Ice your knee and use some Tiger Balm on it, don't use bengay or icy hot, they suck. Ease back into running after a few days. Go easy at first. If the pain returns, go to a doctor and have them check it out. Also take a look at your running shoes, if they are old and the soles are wearing thin your answer might be replacing your shoes. A Patellar Tendinitis band may be worth getting and trying out. Also try adding more trails, tracks, and sand for running instead of pavement. If not stay off sidewalks and run on regular road, its a little better then sidewalk. It suck not being able to run b/c of injury, but hang in there and don't punch any walls. You will heal faster w/ rest.
Wish you well and back to running soon.

Could I ever get a college track scholarship?

You can go to a sports medicine specialist and they might have you get a custom insole for that shoe only to balance your weight carriage. Good luck getting through your dry spell!

Is it okay to wear wrist weights while you running?

Ya it can be common to get Runner's Knee in only one knee. I did last year in cross country, but I biked a few days instead of running and pretty much went away (knock on wood for it to stay away). But I caught it in the early stages of it. And then this summer I ran with a patellar tendinitis band. Those bands are specifically for Runner's Knee or the other term they are known as is Jumper's Knee. The band cost $5 from my schools trainer, but in stores like they would cost like $10. Just ask them if they have Patellar Tendinitis bands or, runner's knee/ jumper's knee bands. Jumping rope would be bad.

How fast do you think an average human can run?

I would say it is common that only one knee would hurt. No one has one leg identical to the other so obviously one leg will experience more stress that then other and start to wear. Usually runner's knee is caused from running too much on hard surfaces. Try swimming to keep the cardio up until the knee feels good to run on. Then mix swimming and biking with running on soft surfaces like trails or grass. Then once the knee is back to full strength road running will be ok but not everyday. Cross training is the best method to staying healthy.

Who is the best runner in the world ?

I echo what everyone else is saying and I'd add that you should watch your running form, once you start back. It sounds obvious, but make sure your feet are pointing forwards when you run. Any deviation to the side will put excess stress on your knees because you leg won't be bending in the direction that you're travelling.

Drinking water or taking any fluids before running is good ?

RR,

I had runners knee in both knees when I first started running. My problem was I had the wrong shoes to run on concrete.

I went to Urgent Care at Kaiser and the quack told me to stop ALL activity for 6 weeks.

Runners at Nike told me to get a good pair of running shoes, take Motrin to reduce the swelling in the ligaments and ice after. Never stop running. Change your location (street, grass, terrain).

Also, since you are only getting this in one knee, you may have a flat arch. Go to a running store and have them analyze your gait.

Training for track?

every runner gets injured at some time, u may be better to try "aqua jogging" for a while. its like a float device which is worn around the waist while u run through the water- looks daft but is effective. ask at ur local running shop. also, see a physio. no jump rope either!

How fast should i run? please help.?
