I use my Nike Air Trainers (not running shoes) to run on the treadmill.
I use my Sauconys to run on the beach because they have a lot of stability. My ankles won't turn when I hit a hole.
I use my Reebok DMXs to run on the street due to the added cushion.
My Timberland hiking shoes have NO cushion, but great stability. I use those to run my hikes, but my knees will hurt a few days later. I never plan on running my hikes, but.

How can I prepare for the high school track team?
Running shoes are designed in particular for impact cushioning, and some level of stability control. They are specially designed composite sanwiches, with each layer contributing to the overall impact resistance. There are no "jogging shoes." It's all running, or walking now, though there's little difference bteween the two.
Cross trainers and other athletic shoes are better suited for lateral motion. They also are not designed for running long distance, but rather for activities that include jumping.
Running shoes are usually more lightweight, and designed to support the foot more during running. They are usually more softer also. If you will be running a lot, I would get shoes specifically for running. Some of the brands I like are Nike, Asics, and New Balance. If you will be doing other activities in your shoes, I would go with jogging or cross training shoes. They are a better shoe for all around activities.
I wanna be on cross country next year, but I'm kinda slow. Is that okay?
Running shoes have better shock absorbsion and a slightly raised heel so there is less stress on the achilles tendon. As for finding a running shoe you can go to an athletic store or shop online.

I have never heard of jogging shoes, you have running shoes and racing flats. a lighter weight shoe that runners us to race in.I'm in year 8 and my time for 3 kilometers (around 3 kilometers) was 13:09 is this good for my age??
running shoes are built for one thing that is running unlike cross trainers that you can jog/walk weat every day kinda shoe. Running shoes are built lighter then other shoes making them better for the jobI need a good time for a 1600 for jr. high?
It does make a difference. Running shoes are designed for soley that purpose (no pun intended). Using jogging shoes or other types of shoes for hard core running might cause leg problems. Also, there's three types of running shoes: cushion (what most people want), stability control, and motion control. For example, I have motion control running shoes for my shin splints so I can keep running without a stress fracture. I hope this helps.I wouldn't run in anything but running shoes. they make all the difference in the world. Consult with your shoe salesman for the shoe best for your purposes.
