What is a decent 5k time for a beginner 29 year old male?

When timing a mile run time, is the tredmil as accurate as the track?
The cool thing about running is that everyone has their own scale, in terms of what's "decent". If you enter a 5k race, you may find the winning time to be anywhere from 15-18 minutes...and the winner could be anyone from the age of 18-40! Most races that I've entered recently, a 5k time under 19:30 is top-5 caliber for the 20-29 age group. The link below has a 5k training plan and some tips on setting a goal pace. After you're a few weeks into it, go out to the track and do a 1-mile time trial (race pace). Enter that time in the race prediction calculator & that should give you a good 5k goal time.
Best of luck!

What's the best way to prevent/care for blisters?
It depends a lot on the person. If you want to be competitive you need to get down around 16-18 minutes. But for people just starting to run 25 minutes is a good mark to aim for.If the course is slightly hilly, I would say between 20-23 minutes. That all depends on how athletic/in shape you are to begin with, but as a girl who runs a lot, I usually end up coming in with athletic guys who dont run THAT much, and other girls like me.
I think an 7 - 8 minute mile pace is a respectable time. I ran a 21:32 this past weekend, and I didn't even start moving until about 20-30 seconds later because it was almost 1,000 people. The winner was 40 years old and almost had a 15 flat!
