What is the fastest mile ever ran?

tempo run is generally sandwiched between the warm up and cool down is the "tempo" part of the run called "comfortably hard." continuous run with a buildup in the middle
Fartlek, Interval training or Repetition Running.Short or long runs separated by easy running or jogging of an assigned distance. Could be your most difficult or easiest workout of the week. e.g 5 x 200M- 200m jog for recovery- 10 X 100M 100M walk recovery.
Time trials are what they sound like, timed off runs done by your coach to maybe pick which athletes will be entered in an event if there are a lot of people trying for that event, e.g in my group I always get a lot who think they they are sprint champ material and can be in the 100M,
also can be a workout your coach created that you have run under a certain time so you go at a certain pace.
100M- 15sec X 10 reps

I'm 30, and havent run competively in 6 years, what do you think of my chances of a comeback and improving?

Tempo runs are runs where you basically preset your tempo before you start running. So say like your doing a 5 mile jog for practice. You can set it up so the first 15 minutes or so is at a easy jogging pace, one you usually do for practice. then take the next 5-7 minutes, more if you want to, faster than race pace. Then if your not finished when thats time period is over, just going back to your original pace. The objective is to increase your base speed and endurance.

Time Trials are just running at race pace for real time practice.

I need a pulse meter that I can mount on my wrist or arm?

Tempo runs are a fun-spirited speed workout. You start off easy and add 4-5 speed "spurts" as you go. We used to call them Fartleks (Swedish for "speedplay"). A time trial is usually an internal (just your team) race. We used to do them in XC at the begining of the season. It's a good gauge for the coach and runners to see where you stand. There are some good beginner running tips below. Happy running!

Help with 1500m Race?

a time trial is like a race but mostly done at practices. sometimes its done so that the coaches can see where everyone is at and that will help them decide who runs varsity, jv. ect.
