Is there an online site I can use to measure the distance I run around my neighbourhood (Chelsea)?

Answers:

How long is?

The best site is www.mapmyrun.com. It allows you to type in your starting point and then plot out the course you ran or are planning on running to see how far you will be or did run. It will also let you print your course out for futre references because we can't all afford a GPS. You can also plot out restrooms and other stopping points to remind yourself certain such landmarks

If you put in your start and finish addresses it will give you the distance. This is designed for getting directions though, so you might have to cheat it by doing it in stages.

Otherwise, a piece of string on an A-Z and then refer to the scale diagram - that's what I normally do.

Treadmill, Stairmaster, Ellipses, or Outdoor Running?

Check out the link below. It has a few ways that you can do it. I'd try Google Earth...it's a free & simple download. Best of luck!

I really like the google maps pedometer http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/ Note that you have to chose more options and select UK from there, as it defaults to the USA.

Do you have any rituals, or habits you do before you run?

www.usatf.com

It's USA Track and Field and they have a map your running route option-- I think it is called Run America and it's on the home page- that lets you put in your zip and then map whatever routes you want. You can also store them and it does very exact distances.

It also lets you look up other running routes in your neighborhood by distance. It's awesome!

Which male runner won 4 silver medals in Olympic & World Chmps, finishing behind the same man everytime?

Chelsea as in Manhattan? If so, the rule of thumb is 20 blocks (numbered streets, not avenues) is 1 mile in NYC. Or you can just do what I did. Print out a mapquest map and use the scale to figure out distances.
