I want to run further?

Question:Does anyone have any tricks for running. After about 3/4 of a mile my mouth starts to get really dry. I keep trying to push myself, but sometimes I feel like I'm not doing it right. I drink water before I go on my run. Are there any breathing tips/tools that I can use to not get winded so easily.

P.S. I'm not in bad shape. I like to exercise and I can do high intensity dance and aerobics for an hour easily, but I can only hack like 15 minutes of running.

Do the people who run 10K's represent an elite group of fit people who are far above average?

You have to drink water like 30 minutes before you run so it can set in. also, you cannot swallow the spit in your mouth when you run. it makes your cottonmouth so much worse. you just have to spit it out. for your breathing, when i run cross country races, i take to breaths in and two breaths out. but all in all you just have to think of something that will take your mind off of running. trust me, it works.

I really need an anwer!?

If you drink plenty of water before you run you should not have a problem. Exercise does not get you into shape to run. Only running gets you into shape to run. Do not force yourself. Run until you need to stop and then walk until you can run again. It will not take long until you can run the entire distance. Take deep full breaths do not gasp and take short breaths. Relax. Just be natural there is nothing to force and no magic tricks.

Shoes? shox?

Running is a building process. It takes time to learn how to breath properly. You have to teach yourself deep controlled breathing along with pacing your run. Start out slow jogging/walking with controlled breathing then step up the pace.

How do you find your lactic acid threshold?

Running further w/ ease just takes time. You have to be really patient..trying to run too far too fast can cause serious injuries and in turn prevent you from running at all.and prevent you from enjoying your run.

The rule is...don't increase your distance by more than 10% a week of what you are already comfortably running. So if you are running say 2 miles now...next week increase your distance to 2.2 miles and so on..Also, make sure you are running at a comfortable pace. You should be able to carry on a conversation if needed and not breathing real heavily. You can increase your speed with time as you get more comfortable. Don't eat a couple hours before a run and if you must, eat something small such as a banana..anything w/ carbs... not protein as protein takes longer to digest which can be upsetting to your stomach while you're running and cause side pains.

Once you start running long distances you should go to a specialty running store and get fitted for the proper running shoes. I'm sure you've heard that many times, but most people don't have perfect foot mechanics and the right shoes can correct any problems you might have such as flat feet, over/under pronation, etc... Do as much research online as you can before you get really serious into running.

Good luck and don't give up!

In cross country, i had a 11:20 1.5 mile and now i get a 6:28 mile?

start with a small distance run. than gradually get bigger and bigger. dink water before you run, but not too much. take it easy on yourself-not too many people are good at long distance. after or before you ran/will run, breathe in through your nose and out your mouth. concentrate on one thing while you run or think what it would be like if you could win the race.

best of luck

I am a wrestler so I go running almost daily (5-6 times a week).?

If your mouth gets dry...chew gum. It helps alot. If you aren't in track you can carry around water. Try not to breath really heavy through your mouth because that is what is causing your mouth to get so dry. Try breathing through your nose. Just dont forget to breathe!

GOOD LUCK!!
