Where can I find a public outdoor running track ?
run repeats. do repeat 400s or repeat 800s. even 100. do these a few times a week (1 or 2). then two days a week run between 1-2 miles. one day a week do a longer run like 3-4 miles. so it could look something like thisSunday - 2miles Monday- repeats (8 x 400) tuesday - 2.5 miles Wednesday- rest Thursday repeats (5 x 800) f riday (1.5 miles) saterday - 3-4 miles
you can adjust accordingly but you should run more than 1 mile and mix up your workout. you can exchange runnning for other types of cross training if you'd like. the most important thing is you get out and run.
i dont know what kind of shape you are in but if you are running 8.5 min miles thats should be a good start.
Good Luck

i would say you should start to run a mile everyday on the treadmill or outside. And you should like join a cross country too. It really helps because i've tried that and sometimes every other day i would run two miles and trust me, it really helped me a lot. So i wish you luck and just try running a mile everyday and it will help you. What are Tempo Runs? Time Trials?
well i run my mile in 6 min. it really depends on your body type and athletic ability. if your small the miles going to be easier than if your a bigger person. my mile time at the beggining of the year was 10 min. unbelivable i know. but what really helped me was running 30 minuets each day at 100%. its a lot of hard work and self disipline but it all pays off. good luck! How do you make patellofemoral pain syndrome (runner's knee) go away?
Building up endurance is done by gradual increases in your running distance. If you want to break 7 minutes in the mile, you'll need to add some speed work, too. Pick one day a week where you'll add some distance to your longest run (example: If you ran 2 miles last week...try 2.5 miles this week). Pick another day during the week where you focus on speed - do intervals or hill work. You'll get much quicker after a few weeks of this. See the link below for more guidance. Best of luck!- Mike
Why isn't ultrarunning more popular?
run more than a mile every other day. at least 2 (don't walk at least jog, try not to stop) then. that will get you to run the mile without stopping. (8-9 minute mile). if you want something faster then work in your speed and endurance. try sprinting half laps. (that takes more time) resulting in a 4-8 minute mile.Well, at my track practice, we run 5-6 miles a day and we do workouts on the track about every other day, and our slowest runners hover at about 7 minutes. So basically, you have to run a lot to build up your endurance! If you're not on a track team, I would join one because it's really hard to have enough self discipline to run 5 or 6 miles a day. Also, you can't just bust out 5 miles right away. Start off easy, like 2 or 3 miles a day, and work your way up. Good luck! :)
Is there a way to develop your fast-twitch muscle fibers, if so how?

Please do not read everything on this board. The best way to build endurance is to do long runs. If you haven't started run, I would suggest you take it easy to avoid injury. I would run every other day for about 15 mins. When you are comfortable with this, move to 20 mins and run 4-5 times per week. Then do a time trial. If you dont achieve your goal, continue to run. Remember, these runs will help you get in shape and build endurance. Also, drink plenty of water throughout the day to avoid dehydration and stretch after you runs to avoid injury. Good luck!
