What exactly is runner's knee and how do you know if you have it?
According to a railroad engineer I looked up online there are about 40 per mile. It can vary though. between 30-42. It's a rough estimate/Telephone pole intervals may vary...your best bet would be to use a car odometer, Google earth, a pedometer, or a GPS. See the link below for some easy tips on measuring running distance. Best of luck!

The usatf.org Web site has a great map-making feature. You can track your route on the streets, and it will tell you how far you've run. It's more than accurate enough for most people out for a casual run.
What are good exercise and dieting tips for becoming a better distance runner?
If you know the route you are running there is a site that is easier to map it out that counts the mileage, but for poles ist usually every other one is a 10th of a milewww.runthere.com.
