Risks of running too soon after pregnancy?

Question:I am now 3 weeks post op (c-section) and stayed active during my pregnancy. I have already dropped around 25 pounds since giving birth and am needing to drop another 10-15 (I'm currently 128 at 5'4") Does anyone know of any bad outcomes from running too soon? I ran today and felt great. I have run all my life so this is nothing new- my body felt fine. I have been warned by non-runners that I'm pushing way too soon. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks.

First and foremost, a belated congratulations on your new bundle of joy!

As for your entry back into the running world, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists says it's okay to gradually resume exercising when you feel up to it. They also recommend, however, if you had a c-section, you should wait about six to eight weeks to exercise. While I typically consider non-runners to be overly cautious, they are probably right on this one because you're only halfway there. At the very least, you should consult your doctor.

There is more information about how to tell if your body is ready at the link I provided below.

since you had a c-section, id check with your doctor, just to be sure the stitches are healed.
but it sounds like you are perfectly healthy and ready to get back to running. 3 weeks is plenty of time, esepecially since you were used to running before.
