Cross country running...?

Im 14 years old, and when I start cross country (if I do) Id be 15. I've always been good at running...but I was wondering, is it too late (in other words, am I too old) to join a cross country team? I've never done any training or been on any teams before.

It's never to late to get into shape. Just start training a mounth or more before the tryouts and you should be in good shape.

What to do to get ready for sprinting?

absolutely not!! at my school anyways, crosscountry is a noncut sport...aka, anyone can do it, even if your mile time is like half an hour. before the season starts, you might want to get in shape a bit just so you're not feeling completely out of it when the actual team training comes in. you should definitely join because you'll meet new ppl who also have a love of running and you'll get in *great* physical condition! i didnt have time last year to do cross country even though i ve never done it before, and im planning to join my school team this year. good luck!

Getting discouraged about relay teams . . .?

I never is to late. I ran track only freshman to senior year. I only ran XC two year. In two year, I went for a 20:42 5K to a 18:31 5K. If you start now you'll be ok.

My mile for XC went for 5:59 to 4:40.

What are the average times for a high school sophmore in the 800m, 1600m and 3200m?

It's never too late and if anything, cross country is a sport that really opens their arms to anyone who is willing to try. It's a sport that so many underestimate (I was a varsity runner and a couple of guys asked me in hs one day if I got my letter from underwater basket weaving.nice...) Running is an incredible sport- and isn't it funny that it's the punishment in every other sport?! You should join- it's an amazing team to be a part of- you''ll make great friends, learn a lot about running and learn a lot about yourself. If you have been running, it will take your running up to the next notch. I say go for it!

What is the best pace for a five mile race?

You are not too old to run on a team. If you enjoy running and want to run cross country start training. Do some easy distance so you can train with the team when they start. Talk to the coach and see what he expects of his members. He should tell you what he wants you to do on your own before the team works out together.
