Finishing a half marathon?


i have 2 aquainatances compteting in a 1/2 marathon saturday morning. i have bananas, water, and gatorade for them when they finish. do any of you reccomend i bring anything else.

What's the longest you could run on a treadmill at one time?

Most half marathons already have food and drinks available at the finish line. If your acquaintances enjoy a particular food or drink, like bananas or Gatorade, that's great to bring, but it is often unnecessary. The only times when this is not the case is when the race is low-key (i.e. few participants), and they don't have the resources to provide them, but those races are rare.

After a long, hard run, however, what I enjoy the most are big smiles and enthusiasm. They will have just finished a half marathon, which is a huge accomplishment, and they want others to share in their moment. Just having people you know there means so, so much.

Also, if you can take pictures at the finish line or somewhere along the course, they will have something great to remember. Half marathons usually already have photographers, but it is not always guaranteed that each participant will end up with a picture. I recommend that you take a lot of pictures because in most of them they will be running awkwardly, have a weird look on their face, or just blink. Or maybe that's just me. :)

Oh, and bring something to do -- 2-3 hours, the typical running time of most participants, is a long time without an iPod or a book..

More fresh fruit! Strawberries, apples, and the best are juicy oranges! Bagels are also great because they'll be hungry and needing carbs!

Does running a long distance everyday help us to keep fit?

those are great. but also have towels and cash and some juice that is sugary, like cranberry. Also sandels or some form of shoe if either chooses to ditch their running shoes after. Good luck crew mate.

Something that helped me a lot was pickles. Not whole pickles, but sliced pickles. Power gels are also good. Good luck to your friends.
