The 1600 is an atypical distance...usually the 1500 or mile is run...the 1600 is around 8 meters short of a mile...the mile record is 3:43.13 by El Guerrouj of Morocco. The 1500 is 3:26 by the same. A great source for records is Track and Field News.the 1600m isnt a standard distance run at track meets. but the womens record for the 1500m is 3:50.46, by Qu Yunxia of China
Where do you find pepper spray to buy?
First of all, if you are not experienced, maybe you should consider running Jr. High XC instead of HS. Jr. High runs about 2 miles, and you would have the chance to be above average since you would be older. You should start running during the summer, and time yourself so that you have some idea what kind of 5K (3.1 miles) that you can do.
Your local Jr. High and Senior High coaches should also be able to advise you about where you fit best. If you find out that you are pretty decent during the summer (like maybe a 22 minute 5K) don't call the senior high coach first if you have any thought of running Jr. High. The senior high coach will want you to run for him.
By the way, the 1600 is an event run at every middle school and senior high track meet. My daughter runs it as a 10th grader, and she does 5:52. The best girl in the state of PA, Neely Spence, is about 4:56. You can compete in middle school 1600 if you run 6:30 to 6:00. That won't win every meet, but you will be competitive, and get your team some points.
Has anyone run the Paris Marathon?
If you want to be good next year in the mile, aim for around 5:30 and you will do fine in the races, if you are a lot slower, don't get discouraged. You will get there some day.More Questions & Answers...
