Droping time in the mile?

There is a lot more involved in running cross country than just your weight. It also depends on countless other variables such as your muscle distribution, your endurance, and your nutrition. There are plenty of people lighter than me who are slower than me, and there are plenty of people who are heavier than me who are faster than me.

When you were dealing with your anorexia, I imagine that you were also losing a lot of nutrients that would have given you explosive energy, especially when you needed it the most during the hardest part of your races.

There is no way of knowing whether you will be faster or slower or the same unless you go out and try. Personally, I believe you will be faster, and I hope you prove me right.

Good luck.

Need help throwing the shot put?

If you enjoy running, it doesn't matter if you are faster or slower. If you have overcome your health issues you will feel better. It is important that we do our best. It is not important that we win or even place in meets. We are only competing against ourselves. Do your best, enjoy yourself, be healthy.

How much does strength in your legs matter in regards to running?

There is no perfect weight. There is a range of weights where you will be both healthy and have good running performance. If you are too light your performance will suffer because you will lack sufficient muscle mass. If your diet is low in iron, your body can not produce enough hemoglobin. As a competitive cross country runner, you need lots of calories to fuel your training and keep your muscles and tendons strong so it's important to eat a healthy balanced diet. My recommendation is to focus more on your training.

As far as your times, look at your strengths and weaknesses. Work with your coach and see if your training needs to be modified. Maybe you need more endurance or more speed work. Maybe you are taking more difficult courses this year and are stressed about school. Without detailed knowledge of what you were doing one year or the next it is difficult to know why you ran faster or slower or make training recommendations. You have running talent don't quit running too soon.

Say if you evened fast/slow mussels for running would it make you better or worst?

Stay at a healthy weight. Build more muscle instead of fat and you will get faster.

For all you cross country/runners out there?

I dealt with bulimia and anorexia for many years both during my college running career and afterwards. While being skinny made me feel faster and lighter the truth was that my strength was gone and my ability to continue at that level was impossible. Being skinny and weak doesn't get you anywhere and it's so bad for you. It's hard on your body and emotionally it tears you down. Being an average weight and super strong because you're eating healthy foods and fueled to run will actually make you run faster with proper training. You might be faster in the beginning running skinny because you ARE so light but that won't last long. If you stay healthy you have such a great basis to work off of and your body thrives on that.

I think that you should try running because it's healthy for you but try not to pressure yourself so much. You should be so proud if you've overcome anorexia. It's a horrible battle and my heart goes out to you. Running is a great release for stress and a good way to stay healthy and in shape. Whether you do it on the team or by yourself, make sure it's fun and that you're happy with yourself.

Best of luck.
