Who was the last contender to win a top award in track?

You are talking about dropping 7 seconds. What is your usual first 400 time? It should be half of your total time. If you are going out too fast you can never hope to run the second 400 at a reasonable time. You will slow down too much. If you go out too slow you can not run fast enough to make up the lost time from the first lap. So the best way to run the 800 is even. To do this make sure the first 200 is on pace. Come through the 400 within a second of your race pace time. Drive hard on the 3rd 200 because this is the hardest 200 of the race, and most people lose their time here. You have to try hard to keep the same pace as you did on the first 2 200s. Now it is easy to run the last 200 because you can feel and see the finish line. So do not save your self and kick in like some people try to do, run even through out the race.

What armbands can you use with Nike + Sports Kit?

I run the 800 in a 2.34
I usually start out the first part of the hrace really fast so i can get in a good spot (place wise.. usually 2nd or 3rd).
My split time is usually a 1.14
I agree with the person above me, the first part of the second lap is the hardest.
It's VERY hard to drop 7 seconds.
I would shoot for a goal more like 2.33 if i were you.

AND REMEMBER FORM! you want a big stride!

Good luck!! :)

Neck/shoulder pain when running?

I used to run a 1:59 800m. I would practice by doing faster quarters and 600's. The 3rd 200 is the toughest part of that race. currently you are running 78 second laps. I always found I could run the first lap faster then the 2nd but to each their own. I would aim to go out at 72s first lap and 77s 2nd lap. If you can't get to a 72s first lap try to get that pace in 200's or 300's. Work up to a 400 meter time and pace. Good Luck!
