What will doing lunges for a mile do for me running wise?
Sometimes overthinking can cause you to slow. You just need to be confident that your training has prepared you for your race. If it hasn't then you know what you need to work on. Some speed work mixed in with long runs works wonders. Trust me because I used to be slow, let yourself go when you run.Who here runs a mile for a team and get 1st place like me?

Speed work out like intervals will help your speed, and as for your comfort zone that's all mental. Sure you will be in pain when you leave that zone but you need to focus on something other then the pain. My trick I used was to focus on the back of the person in front of me and have complete concentration. Why is a marathon 26 point 2 miles?
To get out of your comfort zone you need to run at a much faster pace. Practice doing intervals at the race pace you wish to run. For the mile if you want to run 6:00 then do 5x400 at 1:30 with a 1 minute rest. Figure your pace for your potential 2 mile and do 4x800, or 2x1 mile with 2 minutes rest for the 800s and 4 minutes for the miles. Remember you want to get your body used to running at your hoped for race pace, not what is comfortable for you. You can probably run this 6:26 pace for several miles, because your body is used to doing that and you need to get used to running much faster.Who is the best runner in the world ?
