Do track cleats help with speed?
I run the 200 and the 400. Almost everyone I know wears track cleats for those events, but I want to know if they help improve your speed and by how much. I've tried on track cleats (never used them, unfortunately) and they seem about as comfortable as normal shoes, so I don't care whether I have them or not, unless they increase your speed.

I myself am a distance runner. I typically run the 1600 m and the 3200 m. Track spikes are a MUST for me. For starters, they weigh a lot less. They can range anywhere from 3 to 5 ounces less in weight, and that really helps add speed (even if it's just milliseconds faster). Yes!! I love them they are SOO light on your feet instead of gym shoes and especially for the 200 and 400 they force you to get up on the balls of your feet in order to sprint faster HIGHLY RECOMMEND getting some! :)What are your best training tips for a sprint triathlon?
Spikes definitely increase speed and I have found them sometimes even more comfortable than normal running shoe. I would absolutely recommend getting a good pair of track spikes and your should see your self improve.yeah, they help me a lot.. i only use them in the races so the race seems easy. i use normal running shoes that weigh a little more for practice. Since they are lighter your speed should increase.
Track Cleats do help with your speed. They are a whole lot lighter then the regualar tennis shoe. Cleats are so much lighter. They help.
I have one leg longer than the other, help?!?
The answer would be yes- they do because not only do they give you traction and a solid grip on the track but they weigh so little that you feel a lot lighter and can really get going in them. If they didn't do anything for your speed, olympic runners wouldn't be wearing them :-)They also 'make' you feel faster- kind of like putting on your team uniform- it gets you in that 'mood.' You warm up, put on your spikes and race! You feel lighter and faster- not only does your body have a lot to do with how fast you go but so does your mind. Mind over body- if you believe it, you can do it. I loved my spikes and couldn't race without them. i highly suggest them!
Consider this: EVERYONE at a state high school championship track meet, or college track meet, or intenational track meet or the Olympic track meet that runs the 200 and/or 400 meters wears spikes. They WILL help to lower your times!

uhmm. . . .yeah they helped me sooo much, they have those cleats that dig into the track, when you run you have better traction, they are also so light i mean i feel faster when i run in them, and my times are better too. besides, you can find some really cute ones!!Im honestly not trying to be racist but why...?
Yes they do! But make sure that you get the kind of spikes for sprinters and not long for long distance runners. I see a lot of people with the wrong kind. Tell the people at the store what you are running and they will help you find some shoes that are right for you.More Questions & Answers...
