How do i know if i am running a miles distance?


I am running on a beach. I know on a track its four laps or so but how can I tell a miles distance just jogging on the beach? Is there an amount of time that I can use to judge?

buy a pedometer. they are pretty acurate but you have to input the accurate data first. some of them, like mine, needs the "stride length" data. the stride length is the distance of the heel to heel or toe to toe, your choice, and you can measure it with a ruler in inches or centimeters-whichever the pedometer is set to. then you go for a run. make sure you mark the starting and ending point with chalk on the sidewalk. then drive your car and use the tripometer or whatever that thing is that measures the miles, to see if the distance you ran with the pedometer is accurate. if it is not accurate than its just a matter of accurately determing what your stride length is among with the other data you entered into your pedometer.

How can i prevent the burning feeling in my lungs after i run?

Unless you know your normal pace, or know someone with you that knows their pace, no. The option is to run from one street access to another, about 8-10 minutes, and then go to G-Map Pedometer and measure the distance you ran after, adjust the next run in or out by the results.

what i usually try to do i run at a pace that i know is going to be the same each mile. so if you are timing your run then it is actually pretty simple. for example, if i am running at 8 minute pace then my first mile will be 8 minutes my second mile will be 16 and my third mile will be 24 and so on.

You could buy a gps device and carry that with you. Lots of running specific models to help you figure your distance.

You could also head to the local track and see what you run 4-laps in (or about 1 mile) in yrou normal training pace. Add about 10-15 seconds to that and this should give you a rough guess on how fast you would run a beach-mile. (then you can figure how far you ran.)

Please watch where you run on the beach. You want to run on the firmer part of the beach as running on the softer stuff will give you nothing but leg and foot injuries.
