Cross-country?


i am starting cross-country and i have to train. what are some great things to do. such as, how long should i run and where should i? stuff like that! thanks!

first of all go to conditioning and practice with your future team daily. in my school not enough people want to join, i'm currently recruiting new members. everyone makes the team as long as they try, attend and participate. if you're not training with your coach. then i would say to start off easy, and don't overdo it. start by 2 miles then move on as you feel confortable up to 10 miles. run a path in the streets, the track gets really boring after the second mile. try not to stop and keep a steady pace. if you feel like stopping then slow down and jogg but don't walk. this will make you stronger. try running with someone that will encourage you and keep you going. xc is really a mental thing, it's all in the head. if you feel hurt or tired, don't think about it. good luck.

What is winning times in the 400 and 800 for 1A school track meets?

When I tried out for cross-country all I did for training and building up my strength and getting ready was just running, but don't run that much and it doesn't matter where you run just run.

Where can I buy power gels/clif bloks?

You need to run. What can you do now? If you can run 3 miles then run that at least 3-5 times per week. You should be doing some weights and exercise to help your total body. Stretch and get limber. I am sure your coach has a program for the runners. Have you contacted the coach or some of the other runners to see what they are doing?

Depending on what you can run now, try gradually building up your mileage to the point where you're running 4-5x per week (5-7 miles on your long run for high school). See the link below for some more info & tips. Best of luck!
