How do i push myself, when running??

I try to keep up with the leaders but whenever I run, I just fall back (in distance) away from them. I need to find a way to push myself when running.

Getting bad knees after running?

i do many different things to keep me running:

option 1.] if you are a dedicated runner then im sure you have a point that you want to reach, lets say your mile is 6 minutes flat, and you WANT to move down 30 seconds really bad, i would tell myself that i WANT AND NEED to move 1:00 lower, to a five minute. so during practices, just tell yourself one minute faster, over and over. before you know it youll be 30 seconds faster! for some reason that helps, dont ask me why lol.

option 2.] listen to fun upbeat music! something that keeps ya going! that always helps me, or have a friend go on runs with you that way you have someone to talk to and you dont get bored, and build your endurance at the same time =].

option 3.] pretend your late getting home and you have to get to your destination in so many minutes, otherwise your BUSTED! that always helps me too. lol or pretend somethign your terrified of is chasing you.

im sure you've already heard all of these, but heck im just trying to help. i use all of these options, it works greatly for me =] hope i helped

Well, it isnt always a great idea to push yourself, don't get hurt. But what i always do, if im in a race or something, is imagine you just won $1,000,000 and pretend the person in front of you just stole it, and the person behind you has a gun. That will make you run a WHOLE lot faster, or you could pretend a hungry animal is running after you. hehe =] hope i helped!

Just think of what your goal is. What is the reason that you are running for and what is it that you want to accomplish. As you are running, do not think about it, think about how proud you will feel of yourself when done. Keep your mind off the fact that you are tierd otherwise it will hold you down.

I'm 13 and I'm running the 800 m on April 24th, suggestions for training?

Running is 80% mental and 20% physical. The mental part is the last 80%, so you have to have the training to do the mental part. You have to run your own race. You can not run with others, they may start too fast or too slow. Discover your ability and race your best. When you know your capabilities then you know what you can and can not do. If they are too fast for you it will not do you any good to start with them only to tire yourself out so you do not perform to your ability. Train hard and run your best. Only one person wins the race, but everyone can win when you are competing against yourself which is the best way to run. If your only reward is to win every race then life can be difficult. It is better to learn, and enjoy your experiences.

Breathe, breathe at a steady pace and don't push yourself too hard in the beginning of your run. if you do you end up just falling short in distance and then that when you fall behind. Pace yourself at first and then when you are in the last leg of your run, push yourself hard and you will more then likely end up where they are.

My knee feels weak when i run. not painful, but... like its rubbing wrong. how do i fix this?

Music is good at motivating me. Put on songs that you like and want to move.

Picture yourself passing these people. Think about it before, during, and after. Keep telling yourself you're not tired, your not slowing down, you're going to keep up, you can stay with them, or beat them! It is hard, but try to smile, get yourself hyped up, get excited, picture it, and try your best to do it. Good luck! Hope this helps!

If you are attempting to go farther, set a goal for yourself of a quarter mile longer when you go out. If its speed, time yourself, and try to cut down your times. Keep track of how far you go, and how fast it takes you.

How to become a marathon runner?

I want to elaborate on the calm breathing. Once you master calm breathing, you can focus on speed. First practice this: exhale twice (through mouth- forming lips as if you are kissing someone), then inhale once (through nose)> just by this alone you have established the most important aspect already, which is "breathing abdominally". By exhaling first (twice) the inhalation once- follows automatically and as deeply as needed (consequence of the thorough exhalation). So, exhale twice- through mouth- inhale once- through mouth. Continue this until you reach your destination.

Does anyone know if you can you the Nike+ ipod sensor for running in a non nike shoe?

When you train, carry a 1 pound weight in each hand to make yourself work harder. When you run either with the group or in competition without the weights, you'll feel lighter and be able to run faster.

You need to think more aggressively as you run with the group so you push yourself tighter to the leaders. Don't worry about stepping on their heels or making yourself a nuisance!

Runner--concerned with abnormal heels?

While racing involves some amount of discomfort, it is generally a fallacy to be believe that you run slower than some other runner because you are not pushing yourself enough. If you are falling back, it is either because the other runners are better trained, have more talent or both. Bob Glover, author of the Competitive Runners Handbook calls this the Philippides Syndrome. i.e. if only I had pushed myself more I would have ...
won the race
set a new record
been conference, state champion

Yes, there are mental strategies and techniques to help you relax, focus and better realize your ability but the reality is there are physiological differences between runners and no amount of mental gymnastics can change these physical limits. Note, if your race performances are inconsistent with your workouts then by all means take a look at focusing and relaxing strategies. However, if your race performance is consistent with your workouts then you are probably running the best you can.

Some runners are biomechanically more efficient. Some runners have enormous VO2Max. Even two seemingly identical runners who train the same, have similar builds and both push themselves in practice and races may run vastly different times. The differences are internal and can not be seen. It is sometimes hard to accept but runners have different amounts of natural ability and respond differently to training.

The beauty of running is that you can be a winner without winning the race. Set challenging but achievable goals and you will find racing a lot more satisfying.

I have a 5km cross country run tomorrow, any tips and ideas on how to last all the way till the end?

i like to think of it as the faster I run the sooner i get to stop , relax and get some water or go home and watch tv or something positve . also practice outside of track. But its not always about being in first in your group. i think its more about personal improvement. Hope i helped!

Does anyone know the 400 meter dash times needed to get a scholarship?

pick out something on the track and focus on it. push yourself into getting your body to keep a fast pace just a bit longer till you reach the point. when you get there find another and do the same thing. It helps me push myself a bit harder every race.

and its all in your mentality. if you tell yourself that youre tired or that you cant do it..then your body wont let you.
