Which supplements can I take as triathlete for energy before races and to cut muscle defenition?

I'm training to complete my first triathlon and are extremely tired lately. I eat well but don't get much sleep due to the fact that I have a very active 1 year old. What supplements can I take to help with energy and to define muscle?

What the heck is wrong with my legs?

Balancing sports and being a parent of a toddler is quite a lot. Unfortunately, the best "supplement" for energy comes with exercise and regular sleep. If the extra energy boost from training for a triathlon hasn't kicked in yet, it will soon. However, you probably need to work on your sleep. No pill can replace it, and you should try your best to get enough.

As far as "real" supplements go, a number of vitamins, most notably vitamin B, can help you have extra energy. You can get more than enough from an over the counter multivitamin tablet.

Whey protein and creatine are also used for added energy, but they is most popularly known for building muscle mass and recovery after a workout. While whey protein is used by a number of aerobic exercise athletes, creatine is not used as much. That is because the increased muscle mass may slow you down significantly. Therefore, creatine is more frequently used by athletes who want to bulk up but do not need to be as fast, like body builders, football players, etc.

Good luck with your training.

Who's the fastest one in your team?

for energy, have you tried carbo gels? its basically a packet of goo you eat before you run (and during, if its a long run). eat one per hour, starting 15 minutes before the workout. I like the Gu and Carboom brands, but there are others. Some taste better than others.

muscle definition? you really shouldnt worry about it. after you've been training a couple months, it will come. theres nothing you should eat specifically to get muscle definition.
