How do I get a faster mile time?
Last week I ran a 6:46 mile. How can I get it down to under 6:00 and how long will it take? Also, I'm racing a mile tomorrow, any tips? Thanks!

How to get back to running again?
How fast you can get it down to 6 flat depends on your running base. How long have you been running and what's your training regimen? Also depends on your age and if you are a girl or boy.If 6:46 is your PR and this is your first year of running, that is a really good time and you can expect to break 6:00 with 2 weeks of good training. Running hills, fartlek workouts, and doing 1000s will help a lot. If you are more experienced in running, then it may take more than a month or even an entire season to get under 6. Just remember to always try your hardest during training sessions and not let your head get to your performance.
In terms of the race, try to run even lap splits with maybe 4 second increases every lap. Mentally and plysically, the 3rd lap is the hardest, so try to push yourself on the 3rd lap and you will find that your mile time will drop. Try to stick with the pack if you can but be sure not to sit back that 3rd lap. The last 250 or so you should be able to sprint all the way in and you should be dead by the time you reach the finish line.

if u r really tired, u should go for longer runs. That would hint at u having low stamina. Go for slow long runs
If u aren't so tired, then u reakky need to work on ur speed. Sprint up hills, walk down, sprint up and so on

keep doing 1/4 of a mile hills and 6x800if you run faster you'll probally get a faster time, but if you run slower, your time wont be as fast, but if you run at the same pace as you do now, your time wont change

When i was in 7th grade my fastest time at the begining of the season was a 6:51 i dropped 30 seconds by the end of the seson! I play soccer alot so i'm trained to run long distances! Now as an 8th grader i dropped my my time by 2o seconds and have a 6:03! You need to where a watch a nd do split timing and tell your self so much time on each lap! Also on tha last lap start getting faster every 100m and on the last one sprint it all out! I'll give you a hint to get to my time run your first lap in 1:20-1:30! good luck and have a good stride drink lots of water that day!weight training will build muscle strenght and try to beat your old time

I'm in 8th, and can run a 5:45-6:00 minute mile. However, the last mile I ran in track, was a 6:45. You're doing good, just don't tense up, and breathe correctly. Short breaths, inhale more than you exhale, so you still have oxygen left in you for extra energy at the finish, where you need it.I ran against a kid who ran a 5:15, he taught me how to breathe, and now I'm running ALOT faster.
