I have heard nothing but great things about the Los Angeles Roadrunners (see link #1), which is a marathon training program. In fact, they are considered the best in the country. The only requirement that I am aware of is that you are an "everyday athlete", which certainly includes you and many other people.

They meet every Saturday for a long run. After group training runs there will be speakers on site to discuss health, exercise, fitness, and other issues related to your training. At the training runs there will be water stations, Gatorade and fresh fruit awaiting you at the finish. Best of all, you run with a wonderful group of people who will keep you motivated to keep going.

If you're more interested in a running club that is more general, you may enjoy the Niketown Running Club (see link #2). Again, there is no real requirement to join (runners are generally cool like that). The group meets every Thursday at 6:30PM, stretches, and runs or walks between 3 to 7 miles. Your choice your pace. Then, you can socialize and enjoy post-run refreshments. They help train you for local 5K and 10K races, as well as a few others.

Good luck finding a good running club that matches your needs.

Has anyone proved that track shoes are faster than bare feet?

There are a lot of running clubs here!
LA Leggers, Team in Training - those are a few good ones.
Go to www.active.com, choose individual sports, click on "Running" and type in 90007 or another zip code for SoCal. The clubs are listed on the bottom, most of them with links to their home pages.
Usually, requirements are just a small due so as to keep the club running.
Running clubs are to get people motivated to have a healthy lifestyle, but many are also devoted to a particular cause. They'll probably choose specific events to train for, then give you coaching on proper running techniques.
Clubs can be great fun. Try one!

What is your 100m time?

I just google it... Usually you'll find more than a couple. :)

Can i win can i?

The link below has some good running club & trail information for the LA / Ventura / Santa Barabara areas. Best of luck!
