How should I train for a 4.7 km race?
Question:Sofar I've been jogging daily 15 -25 min daily. I've never been in a race yet and I'm not sure what to expect. Also, should I run the whole time or salk for a few minurtes to catch my breath (for example at the end when it goes uphill). Should I drink a lot before the race and if so how long before the race and what should I eat?
If you can give me any other tips I'd be really thankful!!

Prepare for running..a day before?
Your race could possibly take you as long as 50 min to an hour so you will definately need to pace yourself. If you feel the need to slow down or walk then do it. As far as I can tell, you are doing this race for YOU, so do what you need to to finish and feel good about how you ran.For hydration, you want to be fully hydrated BEFORE you start the race and then drink small amounts during the race, even running with a gel pack or nutrition bar for energy during the race. I would recommend drinking plenty of fluids during the 2-3 days BEORE the race. As for food, you shouldn't change your diet drastically before the race. Run on foods you know your stomach can handle while you are working out and you should be fine.

Runthats about 3 miles, and at a decent jog you should finish in around 30 minutes.
so, keep up the daily jogging of 25 minutes, and add a longer run once per week of 3 miles or more. gradually increase this to 4 or even 5 miles if you can.
you should try to run the race at a steady pace the whole time. its important to know how fast you can go, and try not to go too fast at the beginning. in a race, you will be pumped up and feel like going faster than you should. hold back and keep to the pace you trained at.
you should drink a lot of water starting days before the race, but not within the 30 minutes just before you start. you dont want to have to stop for a porta pottie!
eating - just eat a normal balanced diet. the day of the race, eat lightly, you dont want a full stomache for a run. eat some oatmeal or a granola bar about 2 hours before, but thats about it.
at the race, you will meet a lot of neat people. talk to them, and have fun. runners are very supportive of each other, you're all in it together.

Also all races will have water or gatorade on the course. Welcome to running.Pre-race nervousness, how do you cope?
