Track spikes - fit and where to put the spikes?
You should do a total body work out, including abs and core muscles. Have 2 days of plyometrics to build explosive muscles. Run 5-6 days per week, including speed work. Today's theory is heavy weights, not light weights. What events are you running? This effects the amount of lifting you want to do. Sprinters need more bulk, and distance runners need strength, but without a lot of weight. Stretch after work outs and warm up correctly.do leg presses, have it with small weights at first while doing lots of repitions... then start increasing your weights every few days
Whats a good workout for the 400 m dash?
Lifting weights will benefit you as long as you do it right. You can increase your speed by lifting with the right program, but you can also slow yourself by bulking up too much.Im not an expert but from my experience you can over bulk yourself by doing very little heavy repetitions and this will cause muscles to become very bulky and under stretched. You can look into programs that use slightly lighter weight where you exercise for speed and time and not reps. Make sure you stretch before and after you work out.
Also speed train while working out, dont just lift weights go do sprints on a field or track and use resistance running to (in high school we tied 45lb plates to our waist and sprinted while dragging them behind us)
Just some input but if you want to gain speed im sure you can find many programs out there. Not sure if you are in high school or college but ask strength and conditioning coaches at local school or sprinting coaches what kind of program they prefer to use for their athletes.
lifting is a really good idea. both upper body and lower body lifting. lower body obviously helps your legs get stronger, and upper body strength helps your arms, which are, in fact, important to running. it will also get rid of those horrible collarbone cramps. if you do speed lifting, it'll help your speed because you're getting used to it. don't just go up and lift. do as many as you can in thirty seconds and move on to something else. my coach has us do this in cross country training and it helps.
Does anyone have a cool name for a running group I started with my coworkers?
Could tear your fast twitch muslces which generate your leg speed & also too much muscle will limit your range of motion which reduces your speed potential. The thing that makes you faster is muscular endurance, not overall strength. Running is the only way to get faster. You will peak your abilities much quicker and not even reach what you are capable of if you lift weights.More Questions & Answers...
