Do you agrre w/ me? Jeremy Wariner is da best runner ever?
You don't have time to train or to have any effect on your conditioning or speed. What you can do since you want to drop 2 seconds is control your pace. It is important to run even. Do not go out too fast or too slow. Try to come through the first 400 in 64 seconds, run the third 200 hard so you can maintain that pace. It is always easier to run the last 200 than the third 200. Even though this is your first year you should know how it feels to run 32 second 200. Do not get caught up in the rush at the start. Keep your composure and run your race. If you go out too fast say 28 for the first 200 you are a dead duck.you could use steroids or growth hormone, its what the pros do. Just ask Ben Johnson, Barry Bonds, Mark McGuire, or Floyd Landis
Jogging: should I increase my speed or distance?
By Running as much as you can. Run a mile a day. I run the 200 and 100m. I run a mile a day. so try that.Did you hear about the 3 runners who crossed the Sahara!?
Well dude if its this Friday train like you normally do just kick it earlier than you normally do. If you want that 2seconds you can get it. When you see that person ahead whos going to beat you pretend you have to catch him that will give you the two seconds if you push it. I know about pushing it I do it all the time. Its mind over body it can and will be done. Now for next year Id start training my legs. You track coach can give you some good exercises for the particular runs you run. Peace out....I would do some hill running - run hard up hill and easy down hill. It will help build leg strength which should make you more explosive out the gate.
Whats a good time for a 40 yard dash?
WIth so little time left, there isn't much you can do. Generally, it takes two weeks for the affects of training to show up in improved times. In addition, without knowing what you are currently doing in training, what your strengths and weaknesses are, it is very difficult to propose specific training. Here are a few things you can try this week.
1. Rest - This is the most important. Now is not the time to be increasing your overall workload
2. Work on strides and short sprints, i.e. a few 100m and 200m intervals but take a lot of recovery time between each one. The goal here is not to stress your aerobic system, it is too late for improvements there but to improve your running economy and pace sense. Practice running fast and relaxed without stressing yourself. Run these at your target pace of 2:08, not faster. One 400m may be OK but again take a lot of recovery. The purpose is to practice pacing not to tire yourself out for the meet.
However, If you are going to state, you must be on a track team. This is really a question to ask your coach. He knows you much better and can provide you with the right training guidance.
