Does the blank (flat spike) go on the black, white, grey, blue, green, pink, red, or orange hole? Thanks

Well if they are going to use blanks, usually people use blanks in all of the holes.

However, if you really don't have an extra spike, probably the place that would least affect your sprinting would be near the toes. Most of the force comes from the ball of your feet, so you definitely want to have spikes in that area, but the toes don't really contribute much pulling power.

Do you think I will be able to lower my time in cross country? Especially considering how bad I did this year?

From the picture I would say you do not need a spike in the blue hole since it is next to another.

First of all... you don't have to use the blanks. It's not imperative. Second, it depends on where you put the most pressure. If you run on your toes... make sure you DONT put a blank in the front of the spike. If you claw more at he ground... you would want to put it in the front. Also, it depends on what event you are doing.

Unless there is some regulations about spikes, I don't think you should put the blank in at all. You can buy them in bulk online (since they fall out or break pretty easily) or visit any local running store and they should have them. They are usual pretty cheap, 15-20 cents per piece.

If you have to put in the blank:
sprinter/jumper/hurdler - put in black hole
mid-distance - distance - put in pink hole
Sprinters use the balls of their feet to gain the most speed. For distance races, most people run pretty flat footed and a single spike will not make a big difference.

However, it is best if you try on the spike and maybe put all spikes w/o blanks in one shoe, and walk around. There is usually a specific part of the foot the will feel uncomfortable because there is too much pressure in that area. That is the spot you should put the blank in. Also try this in both shoes, because sometimes the weight distribution in both feet are different.

You suppose to put them in all the holes. That if your on a dirt track. If not then dont bother putting them in.
