Help needed!?

Question:Hi, I'm a junior in hs and league championships are next week. I need help with my events. It's not the physical aspect that i need help with its rather the mental aspect that I find myself having trouble with. I run both the 300IH and the 110HH. My times are 43.7 for the 300s and 17.1 for the 110s. I often find myself "out of it" before my race. I've tried listening to music to calm my mind and then to pump myself up but it doesn't always work. I also find it hard to push myself in close races (I gave up three third places this year by less than a second). Whenever I talk to some of the other runners, i lose my competitve edge as well. I can't sike myself up to beat them. Do you have any suggestions on what I should do to get my mental edge back?
I kinda need answers back asap, meet on tuesday and leagues on fri/sat.

Is it safe to run with weights in your hands?

Let's see, since it's mentally how about this . . . .

KNOW that you can beat the people standing next to you. If they are nice when they talk to you, that is them trying to psych you out of the race by not wanting to be competitive. You need to laothe any runner that lines up on the same start line as you and know that you are the best runner that is in those starting blocks and the results will go accordingly.

My first 2 years of track i did nothing of that sort, i was nice and afraid of the bigger runners and i never placed better than 8th in the leagues. My last 2 years i knew i was 100% better than anyone out there and when leagues came around, i was projected around 10th with my time both years and i came back with a bronze my junior year and gold my senior year (bronze only cause the other 2 were superstars, but i was not far off of them)

You just have to focus yourself mentally on knowing that you are the best hurdler in the heat you are running and prove it!

What type of clothing do you wear for running?

Go off by yourself before doing a serious run-through in practice. You know, the type of run-through that's timed and you should take seriously? If you can sit down, with or without music, during this time you can train your mind along with your body. Imagine yourself running through the events, your pacing, your footwork and steps. Really imagine the burning and breathing that you experience during competition. Then, when you're at a meet just do the same mental run-through before your events.

Do you feel that your nerves dissapate when the gun fires? Kind of like you're too relaxed and relieved that you can finally go? Whenever this happened to me (I ran the 400 in high school) I would have to literally scream inside my head to go faster. Sometimes screaming to myself (not aloud, that would scare people) would work. Sometimes I'd have to imagine that my body worked like a car and when the engine was whining too much I'd have to "shift up". Sometimes relaxing your face helps. Basically you need to retrain your brain to get past the blocks. I had to do the same, and it was one of the more enjoyable track memories. Once your mind is on board, you can really do anything. Good luck and have fun!

I can run 2 miles in 15 on a cross country course and i'm 13 years old/female. Do u think i can i win a meet?

during highschool i earned earned all-american for track. i was the best at what i did for two years. each year i had the farthest throw in the nation (javelin 229-10). but i never laid back, i never gave into my ability - i continually pushed myself each day. i also ran the 100m (10.87) ... but there were people who ran the 100m faster than me especially at the big meets. i kept focused on each event by keeping focused while i wasnt at practice or on the track or runway. its called "visualization" ... imagine yourself stepping into your blocks, breathing, the feel of the track under your knees and finger tips, your shoes perfectly around your feet. imagine everything ... i could go on with that picture but for you it will be different. but whatever you do... do not imagine the other runners or the crowd or the finish line... your start is the most important part of the race then it becomes the 2nd most important. after you've exploded out of your start each step in between your hurdles becomes the most important ... then the explosion to the finish line becomes the most important. train your mind to visualize only yourself performing the way you want to perform. obviously its best to only imagine your performance because that is all that matters ... you cant allow yourself to become intimidated by the other athletes.

i'm sure you've heard this before. Champions are made when nobody is looking! True character is what you do when there isnt anyone around!

Good luck. Train hard.

What interesting things do you see on your runs?

You need to clear your head b4 you race. Think of nothing but you crossing that finish line 1st. Listen to music that gets you pumped up. Stretch 4 a while b4 you run. You can still talk to other runners just don't take it easy on them. Believe me I know. When I wuz at a comp. me & this other runner were takin & it turned out we were in the same group. When we got close to da end, I was ahead but i felt myself slowin down. I was about to just stop but i remembered what i was there 4. If went to win, win. If not, i'm sorry but, i don't know what you're doin @ the league championships.

Where can I find a public outdoor running track ?

Just lie down
clear your mind and think about yourself crossing the line with everyone far behind you
then just sit, close your eyes, and relax
then you will be in the right mindset

What is the youngest age for a person to run a low 4 minute mile?

This is what you do,, first do some 110 HH drills this week,, but spread the hurdles so you have to five step over the hurdles,, after that do some 100mm sprints this will help you on your time for the 110HH, this will make you faster over the Hurdles real quick.

Now for the mental aspect,, tell you self you want to prove everybody wrong, tell your self you're better than what people think,, think of revenge., think about the glory you'll receive and the recognition if you win, but at the same time you must understand its only a race and be loose at the same time.

in the 110 HH races do your starts and get over the first 2 hurdles, in the 300mH get over the First hurdle, this will get you ready to run fast

Good luck

How to get a better 800 meters running time?

Heres some tips:

1. Try eating a lot of pasta every night until your big meet comes up
2. Get some GU, you can probally buy it at a running shop. Eat it before your race, its energy pumping.
3. Give your opponents dirty looks
4. Most of all you need CONFIDENCE. Go ino the race saying to yourself that these kids suck, and you could own them

If you are in a race, you happened to over take the 2nd placer. What place are you then?

mentally motivating yourself is a skill. you just have to be able to do it. theres no technique or anything that will help you exept using your raw mind eliminate all the other possibilities except winning in your mind and dont let them come back. The race isnt a compatition of strength or endurance, its a compatition of mind. If you can use your own mind to yuour advantage, you can win.
