Racing tips for a troubled mind?
I turned in two last place finishes yesterday granted it was a very competitive meet and I still broke my personal bests (2:10 800m and 4:54 mile) but I know I have so much more potential. The problem is that I keep psyching myself out and I get really negative all the time especially after yesterday. I am really negative after my races and I don't know what I can do to think more positively about my ability. I don't want to keep beating on myself because I know it doesn't help anything. I would appreciate any suggestions or strategies to help me believe in my ability and think postively during my race. Thanks!

My shins hurt Is there any way to heel them quickly?
Just relax, everyone feels this way at least once in a while. I feel the exact same way sometimes and i do track too. You get very nervous with the competition especially when you don't even know anything about the people you are going against. So, take 5 sets of deep breaths in before the race, say to yourself you can do it" I can do this, i can do this, i know i can, i will win" And if you are on your lane, before the race begins relax yourself and get calm and get into a good starting position. If u r in a bad starting postion this can have a lot of impact on the way your start goes. And when you run, keep your chest up highand keep your head up and stay focused. Pretend like no one else is there and you are running . So if you see someone past u, dont mind it and just go on and keeo focused and then step it up and in less then seconds u will be beating that person! Run with good posture and dont worry about the people running next to you. Head up high, chest up good arm form does the job!! Oh and don't forget to have a good meal 3 hours or 2 hours before the race!!Who, among elite marathoners, past & present, has the fastest leg turnover?
If you think you can, you will.if you think you can't, you won't. It's as easy as that. There is no point in worrying- think about it- does it accomplish anything? Make you feel good? Not a chance. Instead, I always would listen to my favorite wild music up until the race and be so into my own zone that I'd want to run because I was so pumed up- screw the other runners! Haven't you ever been out at night with your friends listening to great music and the adrenaline is just pumping like crazy?! Take that and go wild at the race!! If you finish last and you PR, ROCK ON! That's awesome! Who cares where you finished!?!? You have to remember something- there are ALWAYS going to be people in life better than you at SOMETHING..accept that and realize that if you're happy and doing the best you can do, then you've found the secret to life. Go out there and enjoy it. Listen to wild crazy music and paste a huge smile on your face!! Run wild!More Questions & Answers...
