Starting blocks...in track?

Question:this is only my second year in track, and i've noticed i've been doing horrible in the 100, and 200M dash. Last year my times were:
100-16
200-31

but now i bearly can pull of a 32 in the 200. My time this year. is 32.98. I know what the problem is, its my starting. I can't handle the pressure i get when i get down into position. Starting Blocks are nervewracking to me, and i know i can do better, if only i can get better starts. Whenever i do a 4 by 1 or 4 by 2 i can easliy pull of a 14 seconds 100, and 31 sec. 200. If anyone has any advice please help me.

What is your best 5K time, and where was it?

I usually ran the 100m and 200m when i was in hgih school and I felt the same way you did about the blocks. I HATED them, I never knew what I was doing therefore, it made me super nervous. My coaches would work with me at practice because at every meet when i ran the 100 and the 200 they said my starts were horrible. At practice my starts would look really good and it looked like maybe I was getting it down, but then a meet would come and my starts would be horrible...it didn't matter how much I practiced. I knew having better starts would make my times better, even though I did have really good times (100-12.6, 200-26.0). So my advice would be to try and practice your blocks if you already haven't. My coaches would tell me to stay down low and not pop up right away after coming out and they would also do this thing where I would be down in the block and theyd be right in fornt of me with their hands on my shoulders so that when i came out of the blocks they could try and push me back but I had to keep going forward...it help with being explosive out of the blocks. or maybe you should just forget about blocks all together, that wasn't an option for me. My coaches made us all use them 400 meters and down. Good Luck!

Where can I buy Asics Gel Solution Size 11?

You must be young. When I was in the 9th grade I could run an 10.8 100 meters. The best way to improve is to practice every day from the blocks. You'll get used to it. One day I would do strictly sprints. I mean hold nothing back. Next day, I ran long distances to build up endurance and conditioning. I didn't lift weights. I did isometrics, which is a routine based on how wild cats (lions, tigers...) get up against an immoveable object, like a tree, and push on it when they are stretching. Kind of like a scratching post. I didn't get bulked up and I stayed in shape with finely stretched muscles. I ran the 400 meters, 400 meter relay, and 1600 meter. Keep on working at it--If you are interested as an 8th grader I ran 13 second 100 meters. That will give you some idea where you should be. Good luck.

Safe Places To Walk or Run Around Los Angeles?

Im actually running track right now, and my events are the 100, 200, 4*100 relay, and long jump. When i run the 100, i NEVER use the starting blocks. I stumble on my hands and they freak me out too. Just ask to not use them. And when you do relays, they're much easier because when youre doing a little jog as you're recieving the baton, you build up speed. ITs much easier to start with a little jog and then up to a sprint. Thats why relays are easier than 100's. Just tell the coach or whoever is doing the sprints that you dont want to use the starting blocks.

How do I teach my six-year-old daughter to run properly - i.e. fast/faster, with proper technique?

I'm on track right now and i do sprints and hurdles. I always tell myself to push really hard coming out of the blocks. If you breath and relax once youre in ir helps a lot. Also if you throw out your arm of the leg that is in front it like pulls you out fast. you just need to keep practicing.

How long will Michael Johnson's world 200 metres record last?

What does it means by "run at a conversation pace.."?

i agree with you that the start is really important for sprints but it doesn't have to be nervewrecking. this is where you are supposed to get siked up and focused. before you event listen to some music that calms you and then to something that pumps you up. when you get to the blocks, calm your mind so that your muscles are too tense. just concentrate on running your own race and you'll do fine. i have this problem too (not the start but over thinking my race)

What is a suicide pace?

Yeah I know what you mean. I do those same events. Usually, I don't start out very fast, once I'm out of the blocks I go faster. I'm trying to improve on that so my coach told me to explode off the blocks immedeatly. Try not to think about blocks too much. Have you tried wearing spikes? They help me run so much faster.

How should a 12 year old train for 800m running race?

Those are my events, too. I am in 7th grade and my best times are the 100 in 13.49, the 200 in 28.46. Both of those times are without blocks, but I think I think I can do a lot better with blocks. Blocks are scarce at most of the meets I go to, but I am always very glad when I do get to use them; they can improve your time by a huge amount. My advice is to keep trying to use blocks, it'll be worth it!

Milers or Eldoret II's?

You should start off in all the blocks. I do all the events you do and start off in teh blocks except for the 4*1 and 4*2. It helps alot, if you know how to use them right you will get a great start, and for those who don't use blocks, its harder for them to stride out when they're racing. You will have a great advantage when you have blocks. When I first started I was scared that I was going to fall by getting out wrong, but I practiced before the meets and I got better at it. With blocks I run 13 flat without them I run 14 flat.
