Muscular and fast?

Is it possible to gain a large amount of muscle mass and be incredibly fast? A lot of people say that building muscle increases your speed but their is a limit to how much muscle u should build on your chest and shoulders which are muscles that I am building up as well as all my other muscles. Thanx.

Track and running?

you can bulk up all you want, but the way to stay fast is to dedicate the same amount of time to speed training. so if you lift for say 4 hours a week, you need to do speed training for 4 hours a week to balance it out. it just helps you not to lose the "quick-twitch" that you need to run.

you don't want to get to the point, though, where u can't touch your shoulder because your bicep is too big. (i've seen it happen) make sure you aren't maxing out all the time, start off with a low weight doing like 3 sets of 12 reps, then after 3-4 weeks, bump up the weight and decrease the reps to 8 but do 4 sets. eventually you will get to the point where you are doing 5 sets of 5 reps and then 6 sets of 3. when you get to 3 reps, you are basically maxing out.

Fast in running? I used to run track, then bulked up for wrestling. I'm not slow in the ring, but the extra weight does slow me down as far as things like running. If your main focus is running, you should work on definition without bulk. You'll be muscular, but lean. If you really think you need a little more weight, you can do that, too, without pumping up that much. It's just a matter of using the right program.

What is a reasonable time for me to jog 1.5km?

yes, there is a limit to it.
look at multiple-event atheletes like decathlon or heptathlon. they will build muscle to improve their sprints and throwing events, but building too much makes their distance running and jumping events suffer.
building up your chest and shoulders will not improve your running. remember, more muscle means more weight you have to carry around the track.

Aberdeen Athletics Club (UK)?

It takes muscles to run, expecially sprint. However, as you already know there is a limit to the amount of muscle you can carry. It reaches a point of deminishing returns when you have an excess beyond what you need. It is just like any training. You can over train and it becomes detrimental. You need to do total body work, along with plyometrics, and core work. It you weigh too much for your body then you are hauling excess weight and that slows you down.

Cross Country high school.?

Sure its possible. Just look at all the running backs in the NFL. Ladanian tomlinson weighs 220 and he's fast as hell. Reggie Bush is 200 and hes fast. You just don't want to put on too much muscle for your height. So if your 5'8 you dont want to weigh 250 all muscle that will slow you down. Don't put on more muscle than your body frame can support. A lot of muscle is important though in maxing out your speed.

Should I join Cross Country next year?

definitley a limit to building up or slowing down. too much muscle mass makes you heavier and i dont know the technical explanation but something like when you do heavy lifting and build up large ammounts of muscle it makes the muscles more related to this heavy lifting type of activity (slow twitch muscles?) as opposed to fast twitch muslces which are for sprinting and quick explosive movements. as long as your not a hardcore lifter you shouldnt have to worry about it.

but i do know kids who used to be slower in track but after one winter of lifting every day and some major squating they have become varsity runners.

How can i hold a cell while running a race?

it depends what you run. if you sprint you want the muscle. thats what gets speed. but if you run distance then you do what some muscle, but not too much.
