What is the best Marathon to run First?

I want to run a marathon. My only dilemma is what marathon to run. I'm open to pretty much any marathon. What are some good marathons for my first? Looking for one that is fun and not the most challenging.

Muscular and fast?

My first marathon was the San Diego Rock and Roll in 2005. Despite the pain of hitting the wall at mile 20 1/2, I had a blast. Every mile or so, a rock and roll band was playing. Elite Racing puts on a whole series of music marathons. I have run three of their races (San Diego 05, Phoenix 07, and Nashville 07), and they have all been great. I highly recommend picking a music marathon. The music (and the crowds they usually bring) make the event fun and help carry you through the course. Plus, you get a free ticket to the headliner concert after the race! Check out their website at www.eliteracing.com for race info.

Also, go to www.marathonguide.com. This website lists ALL marathons. What I really like about this site, it lets runners review each race! By looking at what other people are saying, it can help you determine if it is a good race for you or not. I plan on running a marathon in every state, and am using this website to pick all my races.

I want to run a 10K?

I would start out running a 5k or 10k locally with some friends. I run 5k occasionally but mainly the mile. If you get good enough you could run a full marathon.

Is coffee good for running ?

The Philadelphia and Chicago marathons are among the fastest in the US. The courses are flat and the median finishing times are among the lowest. There are plenty of other fun ones, many with very nice views.

When it comes to your first marathon, you only get to do it once, so it should be the most meaningful to you. It is a major milestone in your life, and you should be surrounded by others who will share in your moment. If I were you, and I would chose a marathon that is close to home, so that your friends and family can attend and be part of your big day. Take in that moment when you cross that finish line. You will remember it forever.

After that, you can try traveling to new places for marathons, like Philadelphia, Chicago, San Diego, Washington DC (Marine Corp), Maui, Disney World, and beyond!

Good luck on your first time.

Track and Field Drills?

It depends on what kind of experience you are looking for.

My first choice would be one close to where you live, so you dont have to worry about travel and expenses, and you can just concentrate on the run.

Other than that, look for something with good support, and good reviews. Check out http://www.marathonguide.com to see reviews of marathons by people who ran in them.

If you like LOTS of people, try one of the huge ones like Chicago or New York. If you want a smaller crowd but good support, Milwaukee, St Louis, and Cincinatti are nice. Disney World has a marathon every January that is supposed to be very nice also, and you can bring your family for a vacation too.
