How do I build my sprinting Speed?
Your sprinting speed is much different than your distance speed. To improve your sprints make sure you work out AT LEAST four days a week. These workouts need to be around an hour to two hours and consist of a variety of exercises. Make sure you get a proper warm-up and then get some stretches in. Practice good running form and stay relaxed. The key to sprinting is to remain relaxed. Run more on your toes and use your arms to pull your body. A good workout can include a half mile jog for warmup followed by some stretching. Sprint 100m, rest, 200m, rest, 300m, rest, 400m, rest, 300m, rest, 200m, rest, 100m. Followed by a half mile cool down to get your legs recovered for the next workout.
Distance work is far different from that of a sprinter but the large amount of dedication required is still there. To be a successful distance runner you must build a base. This can start by running as much a mile a day but just anything to improve your endurance. When you feel your are ready bump up your mileage. Build this "base" for near two months and then begin incorperating speed work and repeat distance at your goal pace. Meaning if your goal is 6:00 in the mile run two sets of three 400m at 90 seconds a 400. Once your endurance and speed is there you are capable of reaching your "peak", which is when your fastest times come from.
Good luck with your training and I hope you are able to draw some benefit from my response. If you have any specific questions feel free to email me. I am greatly interested in running and have been an active participant for nearly three years.
I absolutely HATE track practice! Any advice on what could make me like it more?
Well first you should do calf raises, stretching, run everyday long-distance and sprinting. Do alot of jump roping that helps you become light on your feet so you can move quicker. Hope those tips help...Good Luck. How do I prepare for sprinting?
Training is a long term project. You can not be faster than all of the guys. You can be faster than some of the guys. You can do weights, plyometrics, distance running for base conditioning, and intervals to get your body used to running fast. You will need to decide on whether you want to sprint or do distance. You can not do both. The training for one hurts the training for the other.More Questions & Answers...
