How can I tell if a pair of track spikes are for distance or sprinting?
Don't get too stressed out. You need to take your time and enjoy yourself. Try running easy 2-3 days per week. Maybe 3 miles each day. Run something harder 2-3 days per week, whether it is a tempo run or some timed intervals. During the off season it is good to get away from the track. You can run 8x2 minutes with a 2 minute walk between runs. You can run 10x 1 minute with 1 minute rest. Every 2 or 3 weeks run a 5K race to stress yourself and see what kind of shape you are in. Change up your timed intervals and do them on the grass or trail not on the track. When you get back to school you will be in great shape, have a good base for training and start running with the team. I think you can run the 400 and 800 faster now, looking at your 200 time. You will learn to run these races, it is a lot mental and knowing how to race, not just getting into shape. Remember have fun because that is what running is about. What's the name of those spring leg mechanical things?
Just start going for long runs. Time is more important than distance. Go for 30-45min at a moderate pace. This will build up endurance and allow you to do more difficult speed workouts. Basically you will improve in direct proportion to the amount of work you do in the off-season.More Questions & Answers...
