How do track spikes help?

6:06 is a good time for your age and you have the potential to improve a lot. However, your goal is not realistic. Even Jim Ryun and Allen Webb, the two greatest high school milers in US track history, couldn't break 4 minutes (or come close) in seventh grade.

Start doing some easy runs a few times a week. See if you can run 20 minutes at an easy pace. I mean easy pace, this is not a race. If you can do that then try running 20 minutes 3 times a week. Ideally, find a track club in your area. Work with a coach. He or she can guide your training and with a team you can get some additional racing experience. If you can't find a team then see if there are any 1 mile or 5K fun runs in your area. Particpating in these will also help you.

Good luck with your mile.

How much do spikes help your sprinting times?

your time is good for your age but don't set your goals too high, your lifetime goal should be to get a mile in 4 minutes or less, theres no way a 7th grader can get under 4mins thats close to what they get in the olympics and the high school national record is like 3:59 you goal should be more like 5 minutes or under and for practice run 2-3 miles 3 times a week My school record is 5:02 by an 8th grader and county record is 4:40 if you can get under 4:40 in middle school you will go to state. hope i helped and good luck who knows mayby you will get under 4 mins someday

thats not a bad time for ur age. n theres not much of a chance that ull get 4 by next year. but id run a mile everyday n keep a list of times from day to day. ull c urself improving n ull like it. just run a mile everyday or as often as u can. no junk food or soda. eat carbs like pasta. drink orange juice n milk. stay hydrated.

How long is?

Doing 4 minutes next year is not possible. You need to remember that no one can improve drastically overnight. It takes years to improve and the better you get the harder it becomes to improve, because we are talking percentages, so the lower you are the harder it is to improve. Think about your school record or city record. They are not 4 minutes. Look at those records and plan to break that as your goal. You can improve by running easy 2-3 days per week. Run for about 3 miles at a pace where you can talk, not too fast.Run harder on 2-3 days. Do tempo runs and some intervals where you run parts of the race at race pace or faster with short rests. Like 4x400, or 3x800, or 10x200. You can find some 5K races to enter once or twice a month. These can give you a stress workout and let you know what kind of condition you are getting. It is good to set goals but they have to be reasonable. Take your time.

Is 1:23 for the 400M a good time for a 13 year old?

good job! you're faster than me, and I'm 14! though my friend was way faster than you at that age... there's no way you'll make 4 minutes in two years; the pros have a hard time doing that. keep trying, but keep in mind that it's probably a little beyond you.
